AIIMS Rajkot Lab Technician and MTS Recruitment 2026: Overview

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rajkot (AIIMS Rajkot) is filling a Laboratory Technician post and a Multi-tasking Staff (MTS) post in its Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL). The lab is part of the project Setting up of Nation-wide Network of Laboratories for Managing Epidemics and National Calamities (EM/04/2023), funded by the Department of Health Research – Indian Council of Medical Research (DHR-ICMR).

The VRDL runs from the Department of Microbiology under Principal Investigator Dr. (Col) Ashwini Agarwal. Both jobs are project-based contracts, not regular AIIMS posts, with a first term of 11 months that can be extended. The drive suits two very different profiles: a trained lab hand with an MLT background, and a Class 10 pass candidate looking for a support job in a working virology lab.

Posts and Disciplines

• Laboratory Technician: the technical post in the VRDL. Candidates with experience in microbiology work, training in virology or molecular techniques, and skills in computer applications or data-management tools get preference. High School pass candidates can also qualify if they have long lab experience.
• Multi-tasking Staff: the support post, open to Matric/High School pass candidates. Earlier work in a molecular lab set-up and basic computer knowledge count in your favour.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract only: You get no claim to a regular AIIMS Rajkot post, or to continue in this or any other project, once the contract ends.
• Tenure: The first term is 11 months. The Principal Investigator can extend or shorten it, and the contract ends early if DHR-ICMR withdraws support.
• Notice period: Either side can end the contract with 30 days' notice or a month's pay instead.
• Applying for both: Send a separate application for each post if you want to be considered for both.
• Shifts and travel: You may have to do shift or night duty, field visits and outstation travel, and you can be posted temporarily to another study site.
• No accommodation: AIIMS Rajkot gives no hostel or housing to project staff.
• Experience rule: Only experience gained after your essential qualification counts, and it must come from a recognised institution.
• NOC: If you work in a government office, PSU or another AIIMS Rajkot project, bring a No Objection Certificate to the interview.
• No TA/DA: Travel costs for the test or interview are not paid, and the interview date cannot be changed.
