All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi has released Advertisement No. AIIMS/New Delhi/Director Rect./2026-(FC) inviting applications for the post of Director — the top administrative and academic leadership role at the country's premier medical institute. The selected candidate will head clinical services, teaching, research, and hospital administration at AIIMS Delhi. Indian citizens, NRIs, and Persons of Indian Origin can apply, and universities or medical institutions may also nominate suitable candidates. This is a senior-level opportunity for experienced medical professionals and academic administrators, not an entry-level post.

National and international medical education and research institutions may formally nominate suitable candidates for this post, and Vice-Chancellors of Indian universities can also send nominations directly to the Addl. Director (Administration), AIIMS New Delhi. However, members of the AIIMS Institute Body will not nominate any candidate, and any attempt at canvassing will lead to disqualification.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need a postgraduate degree in Medicine, Surgery, or Public Health (or their branches).
• Teaching & Research Experience: At least 10 years of teaching and research experience.
• Professional Standing: At least 25 years of standing in the medical profession.
• Administrative Experience: Extensive practical and administrative experience in medical relief, medical research, medical education, or public health, including experience heading a major scientific or academic institution or its department.
• Who Can Apply: Indian citizens, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), as per standard rules.

The effective date for judging your qualification, age, and experience is the last date of receipt of application — so make sure your credentials meet all the criteria by then.

Age Limit

• You should be up to 62 years old as on the last date of receipt of application, i.e. 30 days from the date the advertisement was published in print media.

Salary

• The Director gets a fixed salary of Rs. 2,25,000 per month, plus Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA) of 20% of basic pay — but your total pay plus NPA will not exceed Rs. 2,37,500 per month.
• Residential accommodation is available inside the AIIMS campus at standard rent, calculated under FR 45 or 10% of pay, whichever is lower.
• You will also get other allowances as admissible under government rules.

Selection Process

Your application will go through the following steps:

1. Application Screening: AIIMS verifies your qualification, experience, and age against the eligibility criteria as on the last date of receipt of application.
2. Document Verification: You must submit self-attested copies of your qualification certificates, experience certificates, and proof of date of birth along with your application.
3. Appointment: The selected Director holds office for 5 years from the date of taking charge, or until the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier, with a 1-year probation period.

Canvassing of any kind will lead to disqualification, and late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

2. Fill in the form with your qualification, experience, and personal details.
3. Attach self-attested photocopies of your qualification certificates, experience certificates, and date of birth proof.
4. Superscribe the envelope with "Application for the post of Director for AIIMS, New Delhi", along with the advertisement number and the date the advertisement was published.
5. Send your application by Registered Post/Speed Post to the Addl. Director (Admin), Director's Wing, Teaching Block, AIIMS, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi - 110029, or email it to dda@aiims.edu.
6. Make sure your application reaches AIIMS by 2 August 2026, up to 5:00 PM.

The application proforma also asks for details of your graduation and post-graduation (year of passing, number of attempts, and the college/university), your pre- and post-postgraduation experience in teaching, research and administration, a complete list of your publications, books authored (if any), extra-curricular activities, awards and distinctions, and fellowships or memberships of national and international scientific/academic bodies. Keep these details ready before you start filling the form, since incomplete applications will not be considered.
