SR Cultural Quota Recruitment 2026: Overview

Southern Railway (SR), through its Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC), Chennai, is recruiting under the Cultural Quota for 2026-27. This recruitment brings Classical Dance and Mridangam performers into railway service through the same notice. The cultural discipline you apply for matters alongside the railway post category in which you may eventually be appointed.

Posts and Disciplines

• Classical Dance: This discipline covers Indian classical dance. It is the route in this notice for applicants whose recognised professional training is in a classical dance form.
• Mridangam: This is the separate instrumental discipline within the same cultural recruitment. Your professional record should relate to Mridangam rather than a different instrument.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Provisional candidature: Acceptance of your form does not by itself confirm your right to appointment. RRC will check whether you meet the notice’s conditions during recruitment, and you remain responsible for the accuracy of your information.
• Open recruitment: Neither discipline is exclusively reserved for OBC or SC/ST applicants. The notice still provides the applicable concessions for applicants who qualify for them.
• Clerk-cum-Typist appointment: If you are placed in this category, your appointment remains provisional until you acquire the typing proficiency specified by the notice within two years of appointment.
• Your own instrument: You must bring your musical instrument for the practical demonstration. The Railway Administration will not supply instruments at the venue.
• Recruitment communication: Keep the personal email address and mobile number used in your form active throughout recruitment. RRC says it will not accept later requests to change them, so use contact details you can continue to access.
• Website updates: Check RRC Chennai’s website for your application status, call-letter information and later notices. The notice explains that SMS or email delivery can fail, so those messages should not be your only source of updates.
• Travel arrangements: SC/ST applicants receive the specified second-class free railway pass for travel to the written-test venue. Other applicants arrange their own travel; the notice provides no travel reimbursement, daily allowance or accommodation.
• Serving employees: If you work for a central or state government department, the Railways or a public sector undertaking, inform your employer when applying. The notice also places an employer-clearance requirement on shortlisted serving applicants.
