Uttarakhand Forest SRF, JRF and Computer Operator Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Uttarakhand Forest Department is hiring a research fellow and a Computer Operator for its Bhagirathi Circle, with the station headquarters at Muni Ki Reti, Tehri Garhwal. The fellow will help forest officers plan and monitor Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR), CAT Plans, eco-restoration works and Green India Mission (GIM) research across the circle's forest divisions.

The fellowship is a single position filled at the Senior Research Fellow (SRF), Junior Research Fellow (JRF) or Junior Project Fellow (JPF) level, depending on your qualification. Both jobs are purely contractual, so they suit forestry, environment and life-science postgraduates who want field experience in the Garhwal hills, and 10+2 candidates with a computer course and good typing speed.

Posts and Disciplines

• Senior Research Fellow: for postgraduates or PhD holders in Wildlife Science, Forestry, Environmental Science, Ecology, Zoology, Geography or a related subject.
• Junior Research Fellow: for postgraduates in forestry, botany, zoology, life sciences, hydrology, geology, remote sensing and GIS, geography or similar subjects who have also cleared NET or another national-level exam run by bodies such as DST, DBT, DRDO, ICMR, IIT or IISc.
• Junior Project Fellow: for postgraduates in the same subjects without NET, or BE/B.Tech or Diploma holders in Civil Engineering.
• Computer Operator: office post for 10+2 pass candidates with a computer certificate or diploma and Hindi and English typing skills.

Post-wise Duties

SRF / JRF / JPF

You will be posted to any of the six forest divisions of Bhagirathi Circle: Narendra Nagar, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Tehri Dam (I), Tehri Dam (II) and Soil Conservation Uttarkashi. There you will visit plots, prepare site-specific plans and maps, run rapid mapping, rootstock and carbon stock surveys, set up sample plots and photo points, and help field staff mark trees. You will also monitor ongoing works, report to the Conservator of Forests, Bhagirathi Circle, and train frontline staff.

Computer Operator

You will enter and update official records on state portals, draft letters and reports in MS Office, help visitors register for online government schemes, look after office computers and printers, and keep daily logbooks of data entry work.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The first contract is for 11 months and can be renewed based on your performance. There is no claim to a permanent job.
• Leave and tax: Only casual leave is allowed under State Government rules, and TDS is deducted from your pay as per income tax rules.
• Posting: Your headquarters is Muni Ki Reti, but you can be sent to any division of Bhagirathi Circle.
• No other job: You cannot hold any other assignment while working with the forest department.
• Notice period: Either side can end the contract with one month's notice; leaving without permission means losing that month's dues, and any claim must be settled within three months.
• Undertaking: You must sign an undertaking that you will not go to court if your service is terminated, and will not claim any post in the department.
• Medical fitness: Bring a fitness certificate from a competent medical officer when you join.
• Age date: The upper age limit is counted on the date of the advertisement, even though the application form template still shows an older reference date.
• Travel costs: No TA or DA is paid for the interview.
