IIIT Dharwad PhD and PDF Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Information Technology Dharwad (IIIT Dharwad) has opened doctoral and postdoctoral positions under the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme: Phase-II. The notice covers the academic year 2026–27 and brings together full-time doctoral study, part-time doctoral study and a full-time postdoctoral fellowship. Posts and Disciplines

• Full-time Ph.D. Scholar: This route combines doctoral research with the institute's assistantship arrangements under the scheme.
• Part-time Ph.D. Scholar: This route is for professionals continuing their work in industry, research organisations or academia alongside doctoral study.
• Postdoctoral Fellow: This full-time route is a research fellowship for applicants who have already completed doctoral work.

Post-wise Duties

Full-time Ph.D. Scholars

You contribute 40 hours each month to institute activities. At least 10 hours go to administrative assistantship, with the remaining hours assigned to teaching assistantship or other academic and institute work.

Postdoctoral Fellows

The notice sets the same 40-hour monthly institute contribution for postdoctoral fellows. At least 10 hours must support administration; the other hours can involve teaching assistantship or academic and institute activities assigned by the competent authority.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Funding conditions: Fellowship support depends on funds being available and released by the funding agency. You must also meet scheme conditions and maintain satisfactory performance.
• Full-time doctoral tenure: Support can continue for a maximum of five years or until you complete the Ph.D., whichever happens first.
• Part-time arrangement: This route carries no fellowship under the scheme. You must support yourself or receive support from your employer, and the duration follows institute regulations.
• Postdoctoral tenure: The fellowship can run for up to one year, subject to the applicable scheme conditions.
• Other government funding: If you receive financial support under this scheme, you cannot simultaneously receive funding or a fellowship from another central or state government scheme.
• Institute rules: Admission and engagement remain subject to IIIT Dharwad regulations and scheme guidelines. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee a place.
• Reservation: Government of India reservation norms apply to the doctoral admission described in the notice.
• Final decisions: The institute's competent authority makes the final decision on admission or selection.
