Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA) Research Officer Engineering Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA), under the Planning Department, Government of Maharashtra, has released a Terms of Reference for a contractual Research Officer - Engineering / Modelling under the Knowledge Management PMU of MUWREP. The work location is MITRA, Mumbai, with travel and coordination as required for programme work. This role is focused on technical data, modelling support, dashboards, benchmarking, and research outputs for the urban water supply, sanitation, and reuse programme.

Educational Qualification
- Qualification: You need a B.E. or B.Tech in Civil, Environmental, Water Resources, Public Health, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
- Preferred Qualification: A post-graduate qualification is desirable but not mandatory.
- Experience: You should normally have 3 years of relevant experience in engineering analysis, infrastructure projects, water or sanitation, modelling, GIS, MIS, or technical research.
- Experience Waiver: The experience requirement may be waived for candidates with MDB or MDB-funded programme experience, Institutions of Eminence or Institutes of National Importance background, equivalent reputed institutions, or extraordinary domain ability.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Sector Exposure: Experience in urban water supply, sanitation, wastewater reuse, service-level benchmarking, or externally aided projects will help.
- Tools: Working knowledge of modelling, GIS, or data visualization tools is desirable.
- Writing Skills: You should be able to prepare concise research notes, technical summaries, charts, and presentations.
- Communication: Strong English writing and speaking skills are needed. Working knowledge of Marathi or Hindi will be an advantage.
Work Focus and Deliverables
The Research Officer will support the Engineering / Modelling Specialist and KM-PMU with data analysis, modelling support, benchmarking, documentation, and technical research. This role is useful for engineers who can work with programme data and convert it into clear trackers, notes, charts, and decision-support material for MUWREP. The notification also expects concise research notes and technical summaries, so you should be comfortable turning raw project information into simple decision-ready outputs.
- Technical data: Collect, clean, and analyse engineering data for dashboards, monitoring sheets, and research outputs.
- Modelling support: Help prepare modelling notes, benchmarking tables, charts, and presentations for programme review.
- Evidence repository: Maintain technical evidence, good-practice material, and useful references for the Knowledge Management PMU.
- Report review: Assist in reviewing PMU and PIU reports and extracting the key technical findings.
- Evaluation support: Support evaluation studies, academic partnerships, World Bank mission documents, and DEA/GoI coordination material.
The selected candidate will report to the Deputy Programme Director / Joint CEO MITRA or any officer designated by the CEO, MITRA. You may coordinate with PMU-1, PTMU, PMU-2, PIUs, Urban Development Department, DEA/GoI, World Bank teams, consultants, academic partners, and other stakeholders as directed.
Salary
- Selected candidate will get a consolidated salary of Rs. 1,00,000 per month.
- The notification says the salary is inclusive of routine allowances unless anything else is separately approved.
- The engagement is contractual and will depend on performance, programme requirement, funds availability, and approval.
Contract Terms
This is a purely contractual engagement for work under MITRA / Government of Maharashtra and MUWREP. It does not give any right to a regular appointment in MITRA or the Government of Maharashtra.
- Continuation: The contract can continue only if performance, programme need, funds, and approval are available.
- Document Check: Original certificates will be verified before final engagement.
- Decision: The competent authority's decision will be final in the selection process.
- Process Change: MITRA may modify, cancel, or withdraw the advertisement or selection process if required.
- Conduct: Canvassing in any form can lead to disqualification.
Selection Process
The selection will be handled by a committee headed by the Joint CEO, MITRA and approved by the CEO, MITRA.
