IIT Indore Faculty Recruitment 2026 — 44 Vacancies

IIT Indore is hiring 44 Assistant Professors (Grade I and Grade II) under a Special Recruitment Drive for backlog vacancies. The Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore), an Institute of National Importance set up in 2009, has released Advertisement No. IITI/FACREC/SRD/2026/JUNE/10 to fill 44 backlog faculty posts. This is a Special Recruitment Drive, so all 44 seats are meant for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD and EWS candidates. The positions are open across 14 departments and schools — including Computer Science, Electrical, Civil, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics and more. Both Indian nationals and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) can apply.

The advertised areas cover many cutting-edge fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Quantum Computing, Semiconductors, Renewable Energy and Biomedical Engineering. Who Can Apply?

You need a strong academic record and a doctorate. The exact requirement depends on the grade you apply for.

Assistant Professor Grade I (Pay Level 12):

• Qualification: Ph.D. with First Class (or equivalent) at the preceding degree in the relevant branch, with a very good academic record throughout.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of industrial, research or teaching experience (the time spent doing the Ph.D. is not counted).

Assistant Professor Grade II (Pay Level 10, Contract):

• Qualification: Ph.D. with First Class (or equivalent) at the preceding degree in the relevant branch.
• This post is on a contract basis and does not need prior experience, so fresh Ph.D. holders can apply.

For the School of Innovation, the rules are slightly different. Candidates without a Ph.D. but with strong professional experience may be considered — those with 5+ years for Grade II, and 8+ years for Grade I (who must then obtain their Ph.D. within 5 years of joining). Reserved-category and women candidates who meet the criteria are strongly encouraged to apply.

Age Limit

• For Assistant Professor Grade II, the maximum age is 32 years.
• For Assistant Professor Grade I, the maximum age is 35 years.
• Age relaxation is allowed for reserved categories as per Government of India rules, and the minimum eligibility may be relaxed for candidates with exceptional credentials.

Salary

• Assistant Professor Grade I: Academic Pay Level 12 with an entry basic pay of Rs. 1,01,500 per month (total pay around Rs. 1,94,220 including HRA).
• Assistant Professor Grade II: Academic Pay Level 10 with an entry basic pay of Rs. 70,900 per month (total pay around Rs. 1,39,140 including HRA).
• You also get DA, HRA, Transport Allowance, LTC, Children Education Allowance and NPS as per Government of India rules.
• Faculty get a Cumulative Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) of Rs. 3 lakh for every three-year block, plus relocation and research support grants.
• You also get strong research support — including a Young Faculty International Dream Lab grant of up to Rs. 5 lakh, seed grants, cashless medical facility, on-campus accommodation and a Kendriya Vidyalaya school for your children.

Selection Process

There is no written exam for this recruitment. Selection works in three steps:

1. Shortlisting: The Institute shortlists candidates based on qualification, experience, research and publication record.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates appear before the Selection Committee. Candidates from abroad may be interviewed through video conferencing.
3. Document Verification: You must carry your original certificates when called for the interview.

Meeting the minimum eligibility does not guarantee shortlisting — the Institute may set higher norms for each department.
