CSIR-CFTRI Technician (1) Recruitment 2026: Overview
CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CSIR-CFTRI), Mysuru is filling Technician (1) posts through direct recruitment under Advertisement No. Rec.02/2026. CFTRI is a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, and one of India's leading research institutes in food science and technology. These are regular posts in CSIR's technical support cadre, spread across 13 ITI trades, so you apply under the post code that matches your trade.
Each trade has its own post code, TE01 to TE13. Besides the usual ITI route, the notice also accepts a full-time apprenticeship or government-sector work experience in the same trade, so working tradespeople are not shut out. CSIR-CFTRI says it wants a gender-balanced workforce and encourages women to apply.
Posts and Disciplines
- Mechanical workshop trades: Fitter (TE01), Turner (TE12), Sheet Metal Worker (TE11) and Welder (TE13).
- Electrical and electronics trades: Electronics Mechanic (TE02), Instrument Mechanic (TE03) and Electrician (TE08).
- Laboratory trade: Laboratory Assistant (Chemical Plant) (TE04).
- Computer and IT trades: Computer Operator and Programming Assistant, COPA (TE05), and Information and Communication Technology System Maintenance (TE06).
- Refrigeration: Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician (TE07).
- Building and maintenance trades: Carpenter (TE09) and Plumber (TE10).
- Reserved posts: one Ex-Servicemen post each in Fitter and Electronics Mechanic, a locomotor-disability PwBD post in Electronics Mechanic, and a deaf/hard-of-hearing PwBD post in COPA.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Posting: You will work at the Mysuru headquarters or the CFTRI resource centres at Hyderabad, Mumbai or Lucknow, and can be transferred to any CSIR laboratory in India.
- Probation: You serve a probation period that can be extended or cut short; you cannot apply for other jobs during probation.
- Pension: You join the National Pension System (NPS), not the old pension scheme.
- Promotions: CSIR runs an Assessment Promotion scheme for technical support staff, subject to its rules.
- Reserved-category age benefit: SC, ST and OBC candidates get age relaxation only against posts reserved for their category; applying against an Unreserved post means no age relaxation, though SC/ST fee exemption still applies.
- OBC and EWS certificates: OBC certificates must follow the central (Government of India) list and format, not state formats, and EWS candidates need an Income and Asset certificate for 2026-27.
- Experience rules: Part-time, daily-wage and guest work does not count, and experience is counted only after you earn the essential qualification.
- Government employees: Regular employees must upload a No Objection Certificate from their employer with the online form.

Apply online on the CSIR-CFTRI recruitment portal, pay the fee through SBI Collect and upload the e-receipt before submitting. Then print the form, sign it, paste a recent photo and send it with self-attested documents by speed post or registered post to Recruitment Section (E-I Section), CSIR-CFTRI, Cheluvamba Mansion (Opposite Rail Museum), Mysuru 570020, Karnataka. The hard copy must reach by 26 November 2026; online forms without a hard copy are rejected.

- Provide skilled technical assistance to the scientific and technical staff of CSIR-CFTRI
- Carry out hands-on work in your advertised trade, such as fitting, turning, welding or sheet-metal work
- Handle electrical, electronics, instrumentation and refrigeration work for the trade you are selected in
- Operate computers and maintain ICT systems in the COPA and ICT System Maintenance posts
- Support chemical-plant laboratory work in the Laboratory Assistant (Chemical Plant) post
- Take up carpentry and plumbing jobs in those trades

SSC/10th Standard or equivalent with Science subjects and minimum 55% marks, plus one of: an ITI certificate or National/State Trade Certificate in the relevant trade; or 2 years full-time experience as an apprentice trainee from a recognised institution in the trade; or 3 years work experience in the trade in a Ministry/Department/Organisation/PSU/Autonomous Body under the Government of India/State/UT.

After screening, you first take a Trade Test in your trade. It is qualifying only. If you pass, you sit a competitive written exam with 150 questions across three papers, and you get 2 hours 30 minutes in total.
Paper-I: Mental Ability (1 hour, qualifying)
- Mental Ability Test: 50 questions (100 marks, 2 marks each) covering general intelligence, quantitative aptitude, reasoning, problem solving and situational judgement
- No negative marking in this paper
Paper-II (30 minutes)
- General Awareness: 25 questions (75 marks, 3 marks each)
- English Language: 25 questions (75 marks, 3 marks each)
Paper-III (1 hour)
- Concerned Subject (your trade): 50 questions (150 marks, 3 marks each)
Negative Marking: 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer in Paper-II and Paper-III.
Merit: Papers II and III are checked only if you clear the Paper-I cut-off, and the final merit list uses only Paper-II and Paper-III marks.
Exam Language: English and Hindi (English language questions in English only)
Exam Type: Objective MCQ, OMR-based or computer-based; standard is SSC + ITI / Class 12
