SGOU University Librarian Recruitment 2026: Overview

Sreenarayanaguru Open University (SGOU) is recruiting a University Librarian to help establish its library and knowledge centre at the university headquarters in Kollam, Kerala. The planned Central Library and Learning Resource Centre combines physical facilities with a public digital library, supporting learners at headquarters, regional centres and learner support centres.

This full-time contract appointment forms part of the university's effort to give distance and online learners access to resources wherever they live in Kerala. The notice offers institutional support for digital-library, repository and digitisation initiatives, with room to shape the new library's policies, systems and team from the beginning.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial tenure: the contract runs for one year initially. An extension depends on your performance review and the university's requirements, so continued service is conditional.
• Annual review: continuation beyond the initial period depends on satisfactory performance assessed each year. This review is part of the engagement terms stated in the notice.
• No permanent absorption: the appointment is temporary and contractual. It does not give you a right to regularisation or a permanent university appointment.
• Ending the contract: either you or the university may end the engagement with one month's notice, or with one month's pay in place of notice.
• Leave and service rules: the university's rules for contract staff govern leave and other working conditions. The Librarian heads the library system under the Vice Chancellor's overall control.
• Travel expenses: the university will not pay travel or daily allowances for attending the presentation or interview. You will need to arrange these expenses yourself.
• Recruitment decisions: SGOU may leave the position unfilled, change or cancel the notification, or advertise the post again. The university's selection decision is final.
• Conduct and disputes: canvassing can disqualify you. Any dispute arising from this recruitment falls under the courts at Kollam, Kerala.

• Prepare quality reports and deliver the library development plan, repository launch and phased digitisation programme.
