AIIMS Kalyani Post Doctoral Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Kalyani in West Bengal is taking in doctors for its Post Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) courses for the January 2027 session. The seats are spread over 24 super-speciality subjects in departments such as Anaesthesiology, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Pharmacology and Trauma & Emergency Medicine. This is a one-year, full-time training fellowship, not a regular faculty or resident post — the Vitreo Retinal Surgery fellowship is the only one that runs for two years.

Seats come in two groups: Government-sponsored seats for doctors sent by their employer, and Open (unreserved) seats for everyone else. If you already hold an MD, MS or DNB in the matching speciality, this is a structured way to build sub-speciality skills at a new AIIMS.

Posts and Disciplines

• Anaesthesiology and Trauma Care: Regional Anaesthesia, Neuro-Anaesthesia, Trauma Anaesthesia and Emergency Critical Care.
• Surgery: Facial Plastic and Reconstruction, Hand and Microsurgery (Burn and Plastic Surgery), Head & Neck Surgery (ENT), Minimal Invasive Surgery (General Surgery) and Joint Replacement and Reconstruction (Orthopaedics).
• Ophthalmology: Vitreo Retinal Surgery, Cornea and Anterior Segment, and Glaucoma.
• Paediatrics: Paediatric Rheumatology, Allergy & Immunology, Critical Care, Nephrology and Neurology — all of these are Open seats.
• Psychiatry: Addiction Psychiatry (sponsored) and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (open).
• Pre- and Para-clinical subjects: Neuroanatomical Sciences (Anatomy), Biochemical and Molecular Genetics (Biochemistry), Forensic Traumatology (FMT), and Pharmacovigilance and Medical Regulatory Writing (Pharmacology).

Neuroanatomical Sciences is the one course open to a postgraduate in any medical speciality; every other course needs a degree in its own subject.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• No reservation: No seat in any PDF course is reserved for any category.
• Stipend for sponsored doctors: Your sponsoring authority pays you; AIIMS Kalyani bears no cost for sponsored seats.
• Stipend for open candidates: You are paid like a first-year Academic Senior Resident under the Government of India residency scheme.
• Current Senior Residents: Non-Academic Senior Residents already at AIIMS Kalyani can apply only for Open seats and must resign before joining the course. Coming back as a Senior Resident later means applying afresh.
• Certificates held back: Your original certificates stay with the institute for the whole session. Leaving midway means paying compensation and losing that month's stipend.
• Joining window: You must join within 15 days of the session starting, or the seat goes to the next person on the waiting list.
• Full-time only: Private practice of any kind is not allowed. You may also be posted to the rural and urban health centres attached to the institute.
• Leave and housing: Leave follows the residency scheme. Campus housing depends on availability; open candidates get HRA if no room is given.
• Exit exam: You need 75% attendance to sit the final exam, and you must pass theory and practical separately with at least 50% marks.

Application Submission Notes

Fill the Google Form named in the notice and pay the application fee by RTGS/NEFT to the "AIIMS KALYANI INTERNAL RESOURCES ACCOUNT" at the State Bank of India, AIIMS Kalyani branch (account and IFS code are printed in the notice). Forms without the fee are rejected, and the fee is not refunded.

• Train full time in your chosen super-speciality under the department faculty
• Handle patient care, procedures and clinical work in your department
• Work at the rural and urban health centres attached to the institute when posted there
• Attend at least 75% of the course sessions to qualify for the exit exam
• Take the three-monthly theory and practical assessments at 3, 6 and 9 months
• Clear the final theory and practical exam before external and internal examiners
