IITD Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is running a special faculty drive for Assistant Professor Grade-I and Grade-II positions at its Hauz Khas campus. The notice brings together departments, centres and schools across engineering, science, design, management and public policy. This drive is for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwBD and EWS applicants, and IIT Delhi particularly encourages women from these categories to apply.

• Core engineering: Applied Mechanics, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Energy Science and Engineering.
• Computing and information technology: Computer Science and Engineering, the School of Artificial Intelligence, and the Amar Nath and Shashi Khosla School of Information Technology.
• Materials and manufacturing: Material Science and Engineering, Textile and Fibre Engineering, and the Department of Design.
• Basic and biological sciences: Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, and the Kusuma School of Biological Sciences.
• Society and management: Humanities and Social Sciences, Management Studies, and the School of Public Policy.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Academic fit: Annexure-I opens the listed areas of each academic unit. You can contact the head of your chosen department, centre or school for more information about its academic work.
• More than one unit: You need a separate online application for each academic unit you want to join. If your interests cross unit boundaries, IIT Delhi may consider you for a joint appointment after selection.
• Probation: Direct Grade-I recruits and faculty moving from Grade-II to Grade-I serve a one-year probation period.
• Relocation support: Joining support for recruits moving from India or abroad carries a minimum three-year service condition. Check this commitment before planning a move to Delhi.
• Accommodation: Campus housing may not be available immediately. New faculty may initially use transit accommodation inside or outside campus, or leased accommodation until regular campus housing is provided.
• Current employment: If you work for a government or semi-government organisation, public undertaking, university or educational institution, you need your employer's consent. The notice allows an advance portal application with information to the Dean (Faculty) when forwarding through the proper channel would cause unavoidable delay.
• Research setting: The institute describes departmental research facilities, high-performance computing resources and a library. It also supports collaboration with industry and other research institutions, with professional visits during vacations and flexible sabbatical leave.
• Institutional discretion: IIT Delhi can leave some or all advertised positions unfilled. An interview invitation does not promise an appointment or acceptance of conditions you propose.
