DMRL Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), part of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is recruiting Junior Research Fellows in Hyderabad. The fellowship supports research into advanced materials and processing technologies for defence applications. You would join a laboratory whose work connects basic and applied research with materials development, processing methods and product engineering.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Fellowship term: Your initial offer lasts two years. It may continue for up to two more years following the Internal Screening Committee's recommendation, within a maximum four-year term.
• Progression: After two years, a performance assessment under DRDO guidelines may lead to elevation from Junior Research Fellow to Senior Research Fellow. This is conditional on satisfactory performance, rather than an automatic change.
• No permanent appointment: The fellowship does not give you a right to absorption into DRDO. Treat it as a research fellowship with a defined term.
• Doctoral registration: If selected, you may seek permission to register for a part-time PhD at a university or institution during the fellowship. Approval from the Director, DMRL is necessary.
• Travel expenses: DMRL will not pay TA/DA for attending the interview or for joining the fellowship. You will need to arrange those journeys yourself.
• Offers depend on suitability: The laboratory may leave positions unfilled if it does not find suitable applicants. A fellowship award remains at the selection committee's discretion.
• Changes to recruitment: DMRL may amend, suspend or cancel the process. Keep checking the DRDO website for changes affecting this advertisement.
