RDSO SSE Inspection Mechanical Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), the Lucknow-based design and standards body of the Ministry of Railways, wants Senior Section Engineers for its Inspection units on the mechanical side. These units inspect material supplied against purchase orders placed by the Railway Board, Zonal Railways and Production Units, register new vendors and run quality audits of vendors and railway workshops.

This is an ex-cadre, tenure-based posting meant only for serving Mechanical SSEs of Zonal Railways and Production Units, not an open recruitment. The vacancy figure is approximate and mixes actual and anticipated vacancies, and RDSO can change it at its discretion. The notice was circulated to all 26 Zonal Railways and Production Units, and East Central Railway forwarded it to its divisions and workshops on 9 October 2026.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: You are posted for four years, which can be extended or cut short as administration requires.
• Place of posting: Inspection units at Lucknow, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, New Delhi and other places as RDSO decides; you are liable to be posted anywhere in India.
• Ex-cadre post: Your further promotions happen only in your parent cadre, not at RDSO.
• SSEs above Level-7: If you are already in Level-8 or higher and get selected, you may move to RDSO with your substantive post, and a Level-7 post goes temporarily to your parent unit for your tenure.
• Cooling-off: There must be a three-year gap between two RDSO tenures. Former RDSO staff are considered only if fresh applicants fall short of the vacancies.
• Past penalties: If a vigilance case during an earlier RDSO tenure ended in a penalty, you are barred from this selection.
• What does not count: Experience in ex-cadre posts and pay levels granted under MACP are not counted.
• Cut-off date: Eligibility, experience and other conditions are checked as on the date this notification was issued.
• Repatriation risk: Inspection work may in future go to other agencies. If RDSO no longer needs your services, you will be sent back to your parent unit straight away.

Application Submission Notes

Fill in the application proforma attached to the notification, including up to four preferred places of posting. Your Personnel Branch must forward it with the concurrence of your controlling officer to RDSO's official email, sseinspselection@gmail.com. Advance copies sent directly by you are not accepted.

While forwarding, your controlling officer or APAR custodian also has to send attested copies of your Service Book (every page attested) and your APARs for the last three years, and confirm that no D&AR or vigilance case is pending against you.

• Carry out quality audits of registered vendors' manufacturing units
• Audit quality practices at Railway Workshops
• Work from the RDSO inspection unit you are posted to and move between units as administration requires
