National Institute of Technology Goa (NIT Goa) is hiring a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a Computer Science and Engineering project at Cuncolim in South Goa. The contractual role supports the NISAR Utilization Programme of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), with Dr. Damodar Reddy Edla as the investigator.

The project, NISAR-UP-CO-OCE08, brings together polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data, vessel detection and lightweight deep learning. Its focus is on detecting ships and dark vessels, identifying vessel types and predicting their direction of movement, with attention to efficient use of computing resources.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial appointment: Your appointment starts with a one-year term. Further extension depends on a performance review, while the overall project runs for three years.
• Progression within the project: After completing two years as a JRF, conversion to Senior Research Fellow (SRF) depends on the performance review. It is not an unconditional promotion.
• Doctoral study: You may have an opportunity to enrol in a PhD programme at NIT Goa under the institute's rules. The notice describes this as a possibility, so appointment to the project does not itself guarantee admission.
• Joining: The selected researcher must join immediately and work towards completing the time-bound project.
• Travel costs: NIT Goa will not pay travel or daily allowances for attending the interview or joining the post.
• Recruitment rules: ISRO guidelines govern the engagement. You are responsible for the accuracy and authenticity of the information supplied with your application.
