ISI MIU JRF and Project Associate-II Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata, an autonomous body funded by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, is hiring a Project Linked Junior Research Fellow and a Project Associate-II for its Machine Intelligence Unit (MIU). Both will work on the project "AI-Driven Multimodal Microvascular Digital Twins for Monitoring Progression of Chronic Kidney Disease", funded through the J. C. Bose Grant of ANRF, Government of India. These are purely temporary project posts filled through a walk-in interview, so they suit computer science, electronics, statistics and physics postgraduates who want hands-on research in medical AI.

Posts and Disciplines

• Project Linked Junior Research Fellow: the entry-level research role on the project, meant for postgraduates who have also cleared GATE, CSIR-UGC NET or a similar national-level exam.
• Project Associate-II: the more senior role, for postgraduates who already bring two years of research experience in the relevant field.
• Common ground: both posts are open to M.E., M.Tech. or MCA holders in computer science, electrical engineering, electronics or IT, and to M.Sc. holders in statistics, applied statistics and analytics, mathematics, physics, electronics or computer science. You should code well in Python with PyTorch, or in C, C++ or Java.
• What gives you an edge: work in medical imaging and video processing using machine learning or deep learning, and any publications in the area.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The engagement runs for one year from your joining date and can be extended up to five years, or ended earlier, depending on funds and your performance.
• Project-linked only: both posts depend on the project grant; they are not regular ISI posts.
• Age cut-off: your age is counted on the day of the walk-in interview, and ISI may also relax the limit for outstanding or experienced candidates.
• Shortlisting: shortlisted candidates may face a written test, an interview, or both, and the Institute can decide not to appoint anyone.
• Joining formalities: at joining you must show all original documents again and a medical fitness certificate from the Institute's Medical Officer; if you cannot, the offer goes to the next person on the merit list.

There is no online form. You have to come in person to the Machine Intelligence Unit, 3rd floor, Platinum Jubilee Academic Building, ISI, 203 B. T. Road, Kolkata 700108, carrying an application addressed to the Professor-in-Charge, Computer and Communication Sciences Division. Mention your project preference in it.

Attach a signed CV in English covering your name, both addresses, email, mobile number, parent's or guardian's name, date of birth, gender, marks in every exam from Class 10 onward, experience, ID card numbers and category status.
