CSIR NIO Project Scientist-II Recruitment 2026: Overview

CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), a laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research under the Ministry of Science and Technology, is hiring a Project Scientist-II at its headquarters in Goa. The post sits in a coastal engineering project that studies how shorelines change shape over time and builds site-specific, climate-resilient coastal protection plans. It is a senior project engagement meant for an experienced coastal or ocean engineer, or an oceanography PhD, who can lead modelling work.

The project, titled "Shoreline Morpho-dynamics and Coupled Hydro-Morphological Simulation using CWC's CMIS and multi-source observational data for evolution of site-specific Climate-Resilient Protection Plans", combines data from the Central Water Commission (CWC) coastal information system with other field observations. You will be the person turning that data into working numerical models of waves, currents and sediment movement.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The position is to be filled for a period of six months. It is a project engagement, not a regular CSIR post.
• Two eligibility routes: You can qualify with an M.E./M.Tech. or MS (by research) in ocean, coastal, harbour, marine, civil, mechanical or applied mechanics engineering, or with a PhD in Oceanography or Marine Science. Either route needs the stated research and development experience after that degree.
• Experience must be relevant: Only R&D experience in industrial or academic institutions, or in science and technology organisations, in a related field counts towards the requirement.
• Hands-on field work: Even at this senior level, the job includes field work and collecting sediment and water samples, not only desk modelling.
