NIT Kurukshetra JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra (NIT Kurukshetra) wants a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a research project in its Department of Mechanical Engineering. The Aeronautical Research and Development Board (AR&DB) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) funds the project, and it runs for three years. The project studies residual stresses and performance of thick-section welds in Ti6Al4V titanium alloy for aviation use, so the work sits close to real aircraft manufacturing problems.

The project is led by Dr. Dinesh W Rathod (Principal Investigator) with Dr. Vikas Kumar as Co-Investigator, both from the Mechanical Engineering Department. This is a project fellowship, not a regular institute post. If you have a mechanical, production or manufacturing background and want hands-on research in welding and aerospace materials, this is a good fit — especially if you plan to move towards a PhD.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The engagement is purely temporary and ends with the project. You cannot claim a regular appointment at NIT Kurukshetra later.
• Not an employee: The post exists only to carry out the project. The selected fellow is not treated as an institute employee and gets no service benefits on that basis.
• Performance clause: The fellowship can be ended at any time if your work is not satisfactory, including with 30 days' notice before the tenure finishes.
• GATE route vs written test: M.E./M.Tech holders without a GATE score can still apply if they have first division at both graduate and postgraduate level, but they must pass a written test run by NIT Kurukshetra before moving to the interview.
• Joining: The selected candidate has to join immediately after receiving the offer.
• Mode: The walk-in interview is held offline only — there is no online interview option.
• Final say: The selection committee's decision is final.

First download and fill the application form linked in the advertisement, then upload it through the project's Google form. Registration in the Google form is compulsory before the walk-in.

Note on dates: the advertisement table prints 30 October 2026 as the last date to apply, while the walk-in schedule says Google form registration stays open until 5 November 2026. To be safe, register by the earlier date.

On interview day, report to the Seminar Hall, Mechanical Engineering Department, NIT Kurukshetra (Haryana 136119) with a hard copy of the filled application form, all original certificates and a set of self-attested photocopies.
