ESIC Bihta Senior Resident Recruitment 2026: Overview

Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, is filling Senior Resident and Super Specialist Senior Resident posts at its Medical College and Hospital in Bihta, Patna (Bihar). The drive spans the college's broad clinical and non-clinical departments as well as nine super speciality units, from Cardiology and Nephrology to Urology. Some of these seats are backlog vacancies carried over from earlier rounds. Selection is through a single-day walk-in interview on campus, so postgraduate doctors who are ready to join quickly are the best fit.

Posts and Disciplines

• Clinical departments: Anaesthesiology, General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBGY), Paediatrics, Dermatology and Radiology — for doctors with an MD, MS or DNB in the subject.
• Non-clinical and para-clinical departments: Anatomy, Pathology, Pharmacology and Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT), also open to holders of an MD, MS or DNB in the subject.
• Super speciality departments: Cardiology, Haematology, Gastroenterology, Medical Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology, Paediatric Surgery, Urology and Burns and Plastic Surgery, where a DM or MCh is expected.
• Anaesthesiology with Surgical Super Specialty: a separate seat for an anaesthetist attached to the super speciality surgical units.

The super speciality seats depend on teaching faculty being available in those departments, and ESIC says the number of seats may rise or fall on interview day.

Post-wise Duties

Senior Resident, General Medicine

Besides your work in the department, you will be rotated through the Medical ICU, Respiratory ICU, Dialysis Unit and Casualty, and you will take compulsory on-site casualty shifts as per the hospital roster.

Senior Resident, General Surgery

You will be posted on rotation to the Trauma Care Ward and the Surgical ICU, along with on-site casualty duty following the schedule set by Hospital Administration.

Other Departments

Residents in the remaining departments handle the clinical, diagnostic or teaching work of their own department, as assigned by the head of department.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: One year from joining, renewable on your willingness, satisfactory work and the institute's needs, on the same terms.
• Purely contractual: Either side can end the contract with one month's notice. If you resign on the spot, you must deposit one month's salary to ESIC.
• Security deposit: You must give a Rs. 20,000 demand draft when you report for joining; it is forfeited if you leave within one year or abandon duty.
• Absence rule: Absence of more than seven days is treated as abandonment of duty and ends the contract. Attendance is marked daily both manually and on the Aadhaar-based biometric system (AEBAS).
• No private practice: You cannot practise privately in any form after joining.
• No service benefits: PF, pension, gratuity, medical benefits, seniority and promotion do not apply to these contract posts.
• Accommodation: Campus housing is available, and you cannot swap it for HRA while housing is available.
• Registration: You need an updated NMC or State Medical Council registration showing your postgraduate degree, or proof that you have applied for it. Candidates awaiting final results can apply but must show the pass certificate before the interview.
• Reservation notes: Unfilled EWS seats are not carried forward; other candidates may be considered against them as unreserved on merit. Seats left vacant for want of a category candidate may be filled by others for under 45 days.
• Employer clearance: If you work in a government, autonomous or statutory body, bring an NOC (or proof of applying for it) to the interview and a relieving letter before joining.
• No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.

Bring the filled application form published with the advertisement, self-attested copies with originals, and the fee demand draft (if it applies to you) to the College Council Room, College Building, ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Bihta, Patna 801103. Reporting is between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM; forms are not accepted after 11:00 AM.
