DRAT Chairperson Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance is seeking Chairpersons for Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunals (DRATs) at Allahabad and Kolkata. These tribunals form part of the system established under the Recovery of Debts and Bankruptcy Act to deal with recovery of money owed to banks and financial institutions. This is a fixed-tenure judicial appointment, and the circular also covers unforeseen openings that arise within its stated coverage period.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Your appointment runs for five years, subject to the statutory retirement limit and whichever endpoint comes first.
• Posting: You may be appointed at any location where a covered vacancy exists. The application form lets you indicate your preferred places, but the circular does not guarantee your preference.
• Leaving your current service: A serving Supreme Court or High Court judge, or a serving member of an organised service, must resign or take voluntary retirement before joining the tribunal.
• Reappointment: The circular recognises the amended rules allowing current or former tribunal Chairpersons and Members to be considered again.
• Joining commitment: The declaration asks you to remain in consideration after the committee meeting, accept an appointment if selected and join within 30 days of the appointment order. Breaching these commitments may lead to a three-year bar on specified appointments outside your cadre.
• Travel arrangements: You must arrange your own travel for personal interaction; the department will not pay travelling or daily allowance.

Corrigenda and Notices

• Fresh application required: If you responded to circular 07/19/2025-DRT, you need to apply again. The department will not carry those earlier applications into this recruitment for Allahabad and Kolkata.
