ABV-IIITM Research Assistant/Intern Recruitment 2026: Overview

Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (ABV-IIITM), Gwalior is looking for a Research Assistant/Intern for its robotics project AgriCide: An AI-Guided Autonomous Robot for Targeted Micro-Dose Herbicide Weed Control. The project is sponsored by AgriHub, IIT Indore under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and you will work under Dr. Vivek Tiwari (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Deepak Kumar Dewangan (Co-Investigator).

The team is building a farm robot that spots weeds with a camera and sprays tiny doses of herbicide only where needed. Your work spans the whole machine — the robot body, the vision and deep-learning models that tell crops from weeds, the sensors (IMU, LiDAR, stereo camera, encoders), the robotic arm, and the self-driving navigation. Testing happens both in the lab and out in the field, so it suits someone who likes hands-on hardware as much as code.

This is a project-based engagement, not a regular institute post. Final-year B.Tech/UG students can apply along with fresh graduates, as long as their branch relates to the project. If you already work with Python/C++, OpenCV, PyTorch/TensorFlow or ROS/ROS2, or have interned on a sponsored research project, you will stand out.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The position starts for six months and may be renewed every three months, based on your monthly performance, available funds and the project's duration.
• Stipend conditions: The stipend depends on a monthly progress check, and the institute can reduce, hold back or stop it.
• Termination: The position can be ended at any point of time.
• Progress reporting: You must share regular progress updates with the investigators.
• Work mode: In-person work is preferred; hybrid working is allowed only sometimes.
• Travel: You may need to travel for data collection and field testing.

• Design and fabricate the robotic platform for the AgriCide weed-control robot
