TIFR Project Associate and Senior Project Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) is hiring project staff for its Department of High Energy Physics in Mumbai, under Prof. Gagan B Mohanty. TIFR is an autonomous institution under the Department of Atomic Energy and a deemed university. These project-based appointments focus on silicon-module assembly and testing for an externally funded project.
Posts and Disciplines
- Project Associate: a hands-on hardware role centred on assembling silicon modules and carrying out measurement and bonding work in the laboratory.
- Senior Project Associate: a role focused on testing assembled modules, supporting the database and examining mechanical and electrical quality data.
Post-wise Duties
Project Associate
You will use an automated gantry system to assemble silicon modules and an optical coordinate measuring machine to measure them. Your laboratory work also covers wire bonding, pull testing and encapsulation.
Senior Project Associate
You will set up single-module and multi-module test stands for the assembled hardware. You will also help manage the database and analyse module data for mechanical and electrical quality control and quality assurance.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Initial tenure: the appointment starts with a one-year term linked to the externally funded project.
- Extension: TIFR may extend the appointment for up to another two years. Any extension depends on your performance.

Pay Scale
Consolidated monthly pay: Project Associate Rs. 40,000 for GATE-qualified applicants and Rs. 30,000 for others; Senior Project Associate Rs. 60,000.
