Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY) Apprentice Recruitment 2026 - 50 Posts
Naval Ship Repair Yard, Sri Vijaya Puram, under the Indian Navy, Ministry of Defence, has released its notification for the Technician (Vocational) Apprentice Programme, IT-03 Batch (Advertisement No. NSRY(SVP)/IT03/26). The yard is looking to train 50 apprentices across 13 ITI trades to support ship repair and maintenance work. Both male and female Indian nationals can apply. This is a government-recognized one-year training programme under the Apprentices Act, so you will receive a monthly stipend during training as per applicable government norms, along with hands-on experience in a Navy dockyard — a strong stepping stone for a technical career. NSRY yards carry out repair, refit, and maintenance work for Indian Navy ships, and training here exposes you to real dockyard operations rather than just classroom learning.
NSRY is located at Sri Vijaya Puram (formerly Port Blair), the headquarters of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, making this an excellent opportunity if you're looking to combine a technical career with life in the islands. As this yard supports the Indian Navy's presence in the Andaman & Nicobar region, apprentices also get a rare chance to see how ship maintenance is planned and carried out at a strategic defence establishment.
Trades Covered
The 50 apprentice seats are spread across the following ITI trades (exact trade-wise numbers are available in the official notification):
- Electrician
- Fitter
- ICTSM
- Instrument Mechanic
- Machinist
- Mechanic Refrigeration and AC
- Mechanic Diesel
- PASAA
- Pipe Fitter
- Shipwright Wood
- Welder
- Electronics Mechanic
- Sheet Metal Worker
These trades cover core areas like electrical work, mechanical fitting, welding, instrumentation, and shipwright carpentry — all essential skills for repairing and maintaining naval vessels at the yard.
Why Join as an NSRY Apprentice?
Apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act gives you structured, hands-on learning inside a real Navy dockyard environment, guided by experienced technical staff. On successful completion of the one-year programme, you get a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC), which is recognized across government and private sector technical jobs and strengthens your resume for future ITI-trade openings in defence PSUs, railways, and other government departments. You'll also get exposure to the tools and processes used in a defence ship-repair yard, which is hard to find in a typical private-sector ITI apprenticeship, and the practical experience you gain can help you when applying for regular technical posts in the Navy's civilian establishments later.

- Qualification: You must have passed Matriculation (Class 10) and completed ITI (NCVT/SCVT) in the trade you're applying for.
- Nationality: Indian nationals only — both male and female candidates can apply.
- Trade Selection: You can apply only for the trade in which you hold your ITI certificate — make sure your ITI trade matches one of NSRY's 13 listed trades before applying.
