Who Can Apply?

You must meet the qualification criteria specified in Schedule E of NIT Statute and MoE Notifications dated 30 Nov 2017, 16 Apr 2019, and 27 Oct 2020. In summary:

For Professor (Pay Level 14A — AGP Rs. 10,500)

• Ph.D in the relevant discipline with First Class at Bachelor's or Master's level
• Minimum 10 years of teaching/research/industrial experience, of which at least 4 years as Associate Professor
• Required research publications and credit points as per NIT norms

For Associate Professor (Pay Level 13A2 — AGP Rs. 9,500)

• Ph.D in the relevant discipline with First Class at Bachelor's or Master's
• Minimum 6 years of teaching/research/industrial experience, of which at least 3 years post-Ph.D

For Assistant Professor Grade-I (Pay Level 12 — AGP Rs. 8,000)

• Ph.D with First Class at Bachelor's or Master's level
• Minimum 3 years of post-Ph.D teaching/research/industrial experience

For Assistant Professor Grade-II (Pay Level 10 — AGP Rs. 6,000)

• Ph.D in the relevant discipline with First Class at Bachelor's or Master's
• Preferable age limit: 35 years as on 21 May 2026 (relaxation for OBC/SC/ST/PwD as per GoI norms)

Candidates with Ph.D from NIT Silchar must have at least 3 years of post-Ph.D experience outside NIT Silchar before applying.

Age Limit

• Assistant Professor Grade-II: Preferable age limit 35 years as on 21 May 2026
• Age Relaxation: OBC(NCL) — 3 years; SC/ST — 5 years; PwD — 10 years (as per Govt of India norms)
• No specific upper age limit mentioned for higher posts (Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor Grade-I)

Salary

• Professor: Pay Level 14A — Rs. 1,59,100 - 2,20,200/month (AGP Rs. 10,500)
• Associate Professor: Pay Level 13A2 — Rs. 1,39,600 - 2,11,300/month (AGP Rs. 9,500)
• Assistant Professor Grade-I: Pay Level 12 — Rs. 1,01,500 - 1,67,400/month (AGP Rs. 8,000)
• Assistant Professor Grade-II: Pay Level 10 — Rs. 57,700 - 98,200/month (AGP Rs. 6,000)
• Plus DA, HRA, Transport Allowance and other allowances as per Central Government rules
• Free institute housing on campus subject to availability

Selection Process

Selection is based on academic credentials and interview — there is no written exam:

1. Shortlisting: The Institute will shortlist candidates based on academic brilliance, quality of research publications, qualifications, experience and credit points. Minimum eligibility may be set as First Class all through if applications are high.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview by the Selection Committee. No TA/DA is admissible.
3. Document Verification: All reserved category candidates must produce latest Caste/EWS/PwD certificates from competent authority at the time of interview.

Mere possession of minimum qualification does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview.
