MHI Consultant Grade I Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), through its Corporate Cell, is recruiting a Consultant Grade-I for specific, time-bound ministry assignments in New Delhi. This is an individual consultancy on contract, with continuation linked to performance. Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract period: the initial engagement is for two years, with the possibility of a further year. Continuation after the first year and later years depends on a satisfactory annual review against defined performance indicators.
• Performance review: the contract does not guarantee continuation simply because the initial period has not ended. The ministry assesses your work against the requirements of the assignment and the indicators set for it.
• Working hours: normal office hours are 9 AM to 5:30 PM. You may need to stay late or work on holidays and weekends when time-bound work calls for it.
• Other work: you cannot take on another assignment during this consultancy. Consider this condition carefully if you currently combine independent projects or consulting engagements.
• Leave: the guidelines allow one day of leave for each completed month, with no carry-forward to the next calendar year. Unpaid leave and exceptional cases need the approval specified in the guidelines; retired government employees follow the referenced separate provisions.
• Confidentiality: material created or received during the consultancy must remain confidential. You cannot share ministry material externally or publish content about assigned work without the applicable permission.
• Ownership of work: the ministry owns work products and records created for it under the contract. At completion or early termination, you must hand over the relevant documents, reports and communications to the reporting officer.
• Equipment: any equipment supplied by MHI remains its property and must be returned when the assignment ends or when it is no longer needed. Damage beyond normal wear and tear can result in a compensation claim.
• Conduct and conflicts: you must follow the conduct rules and protect the ministry's interests. Unsatisfactory service, a conflict of interest or a breach of the stated standards can lead to discontinuation.
• Ending the engagement: MHI retains the right to end the contract without prior notice or a stated reason. In the normal course it provides one month's notice; you may also request termination by giving one month's notice.
• Police checking: the concerned division must arrange police verification. An adverse result ends the consultancy immediately, without notice, under the attached guidelines.
