Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has released a rolling advertisement for Senior Resident posts for July 2026. Who Can Apply?

Medical and Surgical Departments

• Qualification: You need an NMC/MCI recognised MD, MS, or DNB in the concerned discipline.
• Neonatology: Candidates with DM in the concerned discipline can also apply.
• CTVS: MS/DNB in General Surgery with M.Ch/DNB in CTVS can apply. M.Ch or DNB in vascular surgery is also accepted.
• Pulmonary Medicine: Candidates with DM in Pulmonary Medicine can also apply.

Dental Department

• Dentistry - Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge: You need a DCI recognised MDS in the relevant specialty.

Important Eligibility Conditions

• You must complete all qualification requirements by 31 July 2026.
• You should not have completed 3 years of Senior Residency in any government medical institution on regular, ad-hoc, or contract basis.
• Any Senior Residency period already completed will be reduced from the 3-year tenure offered by JIPMER.

Age Limit

• Upper age limit is 45 years as on the crucial date.
• Crucial date: 31 July 2026 for age and educational qualification.
• SC/ST: 5 years relaxation.
• OBC: 3 years relaxation.
• PwBD: 10 years for UR/EWS, 13 years for OBC, and 15 years for SC/ST.

Salary

• Basic pay is Rs. 67,700 under Level 11, Cell 1 of the 7th CPC pay matrix.
• Selected Senior Residents will also get NPA and usual allowances as applicable at Puducherry or Karaikal.
• The notice mentions total pay of approximately Rs. 1,30,000 per month in the first year.

Selection Process

The selection will be completed through a written test and interview. Candidates must bring original certificates and one set of self-attested photocopies on the test/interview day.

1. Written Test: 40 objective questions from the concerned specialty for 80 marks in 60 minutes.
2. Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted for interview based on written-test marks and the post-wise ratio mentioned in the notice.
3. Certificate Check: Original documents are checked at JIPMER Academic Centre, Puducherry.
4. Interview: Interview carries 20 marks based on performance, prizes, medals, awards, and publications.
5. Final Merit: Final list is based on combined written test and interview marks with 80:20 weightage.

Minimum written score: the notice sets qualifying scores of 40 out of 80 for UR/EWS, 36 out of 80 for UR-PwBD, and 32 out of 80 for SC/ST/OBC. Candidates below the minimum score will not be considered for interview.

Shortlisting ratio: JIPMER may call 5 times the number of posts for departments with 1-2 posts, 4 times for 3-4 posts, and 3 times for departments with 5 or more posts, subject to the competent authority decision.

6. Submit the Google Form before 29 June 2026 at 4:30 PM.
7. Report for written test and interview as per your department schedule on 02, 03, or 04 July 2026.
