ICDS Jamnagar Urban Anganwadi Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) branch of the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation is taking women on as Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi Helpers at the anganwadi centres running inside the city, for the year 2026-27. The drive runs under the centrally sponsored ICDS scheme of the Women and Child Development Department of Gujarat, and covers the centres of two ICDS units spread across 16 talukas of the corporation area. This is honorary service — you are engaged to serve one particular anganwadi centre, not appointed to a regular government post. It is open only to women who already live in the area that centre serves, so the competition stays inside your own neighbourhood.

Posts and Disciplines

• Anganwadi Worker (Karyakar): the woman who runs the centre — the pre-school sessions for small children, the growth and nutrition registers, and the daily contact with mothers of the area.

Post-wise Duties

Anganwadi Worker

You will run the pre-school learning sessions for children aged three to six, give out the supplementary nutrition to the children and to the pregnant and nursing mothers on the centre's list, and weigh every child regularly so a child who is falling behind is spotted early. You also help the health staff on immunisation and health check-up days and send sick, malnourished or disabled children on to the nearest health centre. A large part of the job is simply sitting with the women of your area and talking about food, hygiene and childcare.

Anganwadi Helper

You will bring the children to the centre and see them home again, help the worker while the meal is served, and keep the room, the cooking utensils and the drinking water clean and ready before the day begins.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Local residence: you must actually live in the revenue village or area served by the anganwadi centre you apply to, and the only proof the corporation accepts is the certificate in the fixed format issued through the Jan Seva Kendra by the Mamlatdar's office.
• Women only: this honorary service is open to women.
• Cut-off: the closing day of the application window is the cut-off for every condition — whatever you claim has to be complete on that day already.
• Nature of the engagement: honorary service for the year 2026-27 under the ICDS scheme — not a regular municipal or state government appointment.
• Serving helpers: a working Anganwadi Helper who applies for a Worker post is considered on a priority basis, with a relaxed upper age bar.
