Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) is hiring a Technical Assistant and Field Worker for the IGSTC project MELODY: Machine Learning and Remote Sensing Synergy for Sustainable Crop Production. Based at IIT Ropar in Punjab, the work is supervised by Dr. Mukesh Saini and Dr. Neeraj Goel. This Indo-German collaboration brings together satellite observations, machine learning and field information to study sustainable agriculture.

Posts and Disciplines

• Technical Assistant: The workstation and cloud-services side of the project, supporting the preparation and handling of research data.
• Field Worker: The field-data side of the same project, with collection, cleaning and annotation responsibilities.

Post-wise Duties

Technical Assistant

You will handle data collection, cleaning and annotation on a computer workstation. The role also includes managing cloud resources and services used in the project.

Field Worker

You will carry out field-level data collection and help clean and annotate that information. Your work contributes field inputs to the project's wider analysis of crop production and resource use.

The research aims to build an Agricultural Sustainability Key Performance Indicator (ASK) tool. It brings together information about crop types, crop growth stages, fertiliser efficiency, pesticide use, soil carbon storage and yields. The goal is to help farmers, policymakers and agricultural businesses make better decisions about resources and environmental impact.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: Both appointments are temporary project engagements for two years.
• Joining: The positions are available immediately, and the selected applicants are expected to join promptly.
• Travel costs: The project does not pay travel or daily allowances for attending an interview.
