IIT BHU Lab Attendant Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi (IIT BHU) is hiring a Lab Attendant for a project in its Department of Civil Engineering funded by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The engagement is part-time and linked to the project, with work centred on the Geotechnical and Transportation laboratory. You would join the project under Professor Bala Ramudu Paramkusam, its principal investigator.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Project appointment: The post is temporary and ends with the project. Your appointment therefore depends on the project continuing; the notice does not offer an ongoing institute position.
- Project duration: The funded project has a sanctioned duration of three years. This does not mean that the selected person receives an unconditional appointment for the entire period.
- Renewal: Your tenure can be extended each year after a review of performance and approval from the funding agency. Both conditions matter for continuation in the role.
- Work setting: The engagement includes laboratory, field and office work connected with the Civil Engineering project. You should be comfortable moving between these settings rather than expecting an office-only assignment.
- Travel expenses: IIT BHU will not pay travel or daily allowances if you are called for an interview. You would need to make your own travel arrangements.

Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Class 12 pass with good health and physical fitness.
Preferred Qualification
ITI in Civil Engineering Assistant, Draughtsman (Civil), Fitter or Foundryman. Computer, office and related peon-work knowledge is desirable.
Required Skills
Teamwork, a proactive approach and willingness to work in varied laboratory conditions.
