ICFRE AFRI Junior Project Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education - Arid Forest Research Institute (ICFRE-AFRI) is engaging a Junior Project Fellow (JPF) in Jodhpur for a study on stabilising drifting sand dunes in the Indian Thar Desert. The appointment belongs to the JICA-SFD Rajasthan-ICFRE-AFRI collaborative project, with Smt. Bhawana Sharma named as its investigator or coordinator. This is a short project engagement tied to the preparatory phase, with field activity in Rajasthan's desert and arid areas.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Short tenure: Your appointment lasts for one month or until the preparatory phase or project requirement ends, whichever comes first. The position ends with the project requirement, so do not assume that the full month is guaranteed.
- Field visits: You will work under the project investigator or coordinator. The assignment may involve extensive travel to desert and arid locations in Rajasthan, beyond the institute's Jodhpur base.
- No regular appointment claim: Taking this fellowship does not give you a right to a regular post in ICFRE-AFRI, ICFRE or another government organisation.
- Interview attendance: The institute will consider only an offline interview. It will not accept requests to attend online, and it will not reimburse travel or daily expenses for attending.
- Recruitment changes: The institute may cancel the recruitment or leave the post unfilled without giving a reason. Check its website for updates, corrections, postponement or cancellation before travelling.

Responsibilities
- Survey potential project sites and assess their suitability.
- Collect baseline information on vegetation, soil, land degradation and sand dunes.
- Record site and sampling coordinates using GPS and prepare GIS maps.
- Analyse satellite images, NDVI and spatial data on dune stabilisation and vegetation recovery.
- Compile field and spatial datasets and carry out statistical analysis.
- Review research literature and prepare reports, presentations and thematic maps.
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
First-class master’s degree in Forestry, Botany, Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Geography, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing & GIS, or an allied discipline from a recognised university or institute.
Required Skills
Working knowledge of QGIS/ArcGIS, Google Earth and MS Office is preferred.
