GNLU Library Staff Recruitment 2026: Overview

Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is hiring contractual library staff for its Gandhinagar campus. The recruitment brings together professional library support, trainee work and stack management under the Assistant Librarians' guidance. A key condition is the round-the-clock library roster, so you must be ready for overnight shifts as well as daytime work.

Post-wise Duties

Library Assistant

You will help with books, journal subscriptions and database renewals, along with cataloguing and technical processing. Your work also covers circulation, reference and research support, website updates, the institutional repository and digitising library records.

Library Trainees

You will support the acquisition section and library users, collect library statistics and organise information. The work also includes circulation counter duties, cataloguing, digitisation and keeping records in order.

Library Stack Assistant/Library Attendant

You will collect and shelve library materials, check shelf order and look for missing volumes. You will also help readers find materials, assist with stamping, barcoding and protective covering, and support stock checks.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract period: The initial appointment lasts 364 days. An extension of up to a further three years depends on annual performance review, the competent authority's recommendation and Executive Council approval.
• No automatic continuation: The contract gives no right to renewal, extension or a permanent appointment. It ends on the date recorded in the appointment letter.
• Ending the contract: Either side may give one month's notice or salary instead, unless the other side waives this. The university can end service without notice or compensation for unsatisfactory work or rule violations.
• Shift work: The library operates throughout the day and night, every day of the year. Your roster can include overnight duty, weekends and university holidays.
• Time off: You receive one weekly rest day on rotation and one day of casual leave for each completed month of duty, subject to university rules.
• Joining: Be ready to join promptly on the university's assigned date. GNLU may decline to appoint a selected applicant who cannot join when required.
• University discretion: GNLU may leave positions unfilled, change their number or revise appointment terms. False information, concealed facts or canvassing can lead to rejection or termination.
• Travel: The university does not reimburse travel or daily expenses for attending the recruitment process.

Attend the walk-in at GNLU, Attalika Avenue, Knowledge Corridor, Koba, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Reporting time is 11:00 AM for Library Assistant, 3:00 PM for Library Trainees and 11:00 AM for Library Stack Assistant/Library Attendant, on each role's scheduled interview day.
