GBU Project Associate I Recruitment 2026: Overview
Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU) is hiring a Project Associate-I for a research project led by Dr. Balaram Mohapatra in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Supported by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) under its SERB-SURE scheme, the project examines microbial clean-up of polyethylene (PE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste at landfills in Gujarat.
The study brings together organic carbon proxies, surfactants and genomic and metabolomic analysis to investigate this waste-clean-up problem. Your engagement would be tied to this research project, whose advertised scope connects laboratory investigation with environmental sampling and site data.
Service Conditions and Caveats

Responsibilities
- Collect field samples and record environmental information from project sites.
- Isolate environmental DNA, RNA and proteins for research analysis.
- Handle microbial cultures and enrichments linked to plastic-waste studies.
- Develop microbial consortia and study biodegradation processes.
- Measure enzyme activity and support enzyme characterization.
- Analyse genomic and metagenomic data and study metabolites using chromatography.
- Prepare scientific articles and other research writing based on project work.
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Geomicrobiology, Molecular Biology or a relevant Life Science discipline with at least 55% marks.

Required Skills
Scientific writing, including journal articles, reviews, popular science articles, book chapters and blogs. Willingness to undertake field sampling and collect relevant environmental and site data.
