Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Tamil Nadu Region, has released a notification for contract engagement of retired engineers as Assistant Engineer (Civil), Junior Engineer (Civil) and Junior Engineer (Electrical). The posts are for Regional Office Chennai, ESIC Medical College and Hospital KK Nagar, and ESIC hospitals at Tirupur, Sriperumbudur and Tuticorin. Selection is through personal interview, with shortlisting possible if many candidates attend.

This is not a fresh engineering trainee recruitment. ESIC has limited this engagement to retired engineers who already served at AE, JE or higher level in government public works departments or public sector undertakings. The contract can run for one year or until regular recruitment is completed, whichever is earlier.

Work may be assigned anywhere under ESIC Tamil Nadu Region. The notice says selected engineers can be posted at an office, hospital, institution, establishment or project site under ESIC jurisdiction, so you should be ready for inspection, maintenance and technical supervision duties beyond only one building.

Who Can Apply?

Assistant Engineer (Civil)

• Qualification: You need a Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised university or institution.
• Retirement condition: You must have retired as Assistant Engineer or above from a Central/State PWD department or a Central/State PSU.

Junior Engineer (Civil)

• Qualification: You need a Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised university or institution.
• Retirement condition: You must have retired as Junior Engineer or above from a Central/State PWD department or a Central/State PSU.

Junior Engineer (Electrical)

• Qualification: You need a Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognised university or institution.
• Retirement condition: You must have retired as Junior Engineer or above from a Central/State PWD department or a Central/State PSU.

Age Limit

• Maximum age is 64 years.
• Age will be calculated as on 24 June 2026.

Salary

• For pensionable retired employees, monthly pay will be last pay drawn minus pension drawn.
• For eligible retired employees from non-pensionable government, semi-government, autonomous body or PSU service, Assistant Engineer pay is Rs. 45,000 per month.
• For the same non-pensionable category, Junior Engineer pay is Rs. 33,630 per month.
• No separate HRA, CCA, transport allowance or medical reimbursement will be paid.

The pay rule is different for different retirement backgrounds. If you draw pension, ESIC will calculate monthly salary as last pay drawn minus pension drawn. If you retired from a non-pensionable government, semi-government, autonomous body or PSU job, the fixed amounts of Rs. 45,000 for AE and Rs. 33,630 for JE apply.

Leave and termination rules are also stated. Selected engineers can get a maximum of one day leave for every completed month of service plus government holidays. The contract may be ended with one month's notice or salary in place of notice, so this should be treated as a fixed contract engagement, not a permanent appointment.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

ESIC has not mentioned a written exam for this contract engagement. Selection will be done through personal interview.
