ECHS Gangtok Medical and Dental Staff Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), which works under the Ministry of Defence, is engaging medical, para-medical and non-medical staff on a contractual basis for its polyclinic at Gangtok, and Station Headquarters Gangtok is running the selection. This notice covers a Medical Officer role and a Dental Hygienist / Assistant / Technician role at the polyclinic that looks after ex-servicemen and their families in Sikkim. Preference will be given to ex-servicemen, so if you have served and hold the qualification asked for, this notice is aimed at you. Nothing here happens online — you send in a filled application form on paper and then appear in person before the board at Station HQ Gangtok.

Posts and Disciplines

• Medical Officer: an MBBS doctor for the day-to-day clinical work at ECHS Polyclinic Gangtok. An additional qualification in medicine or surgery is treated as preferable, and hands-on years after internship matter more than anything else here.
• Dental Hygienist / Assistant / Technician: the dental-side role, open on two separate routes — a diploma-holding dental hygienist (the Armed Forces Class-I DH/DORA course counts), or a technician who has finished a two-year dental hygienist or dental mechanic diploma registered with a Central or State Government or the Dental Council of India. Either way, the board looks for real dental laboratory experience.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract, not a permanent job: the engagement runs for one year and can be renewed for a further year, or until you touch the maximum age for the post, subject to your performance and the other conditions of the contract.
• Unpaid on-job training: the selected candidate goes through 10 days of on-job training before taking charge. The training period is unpaid and it is mandatory.
• Handing and taking over: key appointments at the polyclinic overlap for 10 days so that the outgoing and incoming staff can hand over charge properly.
• Property return: the Medical Officer has to deposit the Annual Property Return — the declaration of movable and immovable assets — along with the application itself.
• Ex-servicemen first: ECHS states plainly that preference will be given to ex-servicemen.
• No travel money: no TA/DA is paid for coming to the interview.
• Screen yourself: the notice asks that only candidates who actually meet the qualitative requirement apply.

Application Submission Notes

There is no online form for this engagement. Download the prescribed application format along with the terms and conditions from the ECHS website, www.echs.gov.in, fill it in, attach self-attested photocopies of your educational qualification and work-experience papers, and hand the set to the Officer-in-Charge, ECHS Cell, Station Headquarters Gangtok. Anything that reaches the cell after the closing date is not accepted.

Candidates are then called to ECHS Cell, Station HQ Gangtok for the interview, where reporting is at 0830 hrs and the board sits from 0900 hrs onwards.
