CSIR NAL JRF and SRF Recruitment 2026: Overview

CSIR - National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) is hiring research fellows for project work at its Bengaluru laboratory. The laboratory belongs to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research under the Ministry of Science and Technology and supports aerospace engineering research. This advertisement brings together thin-film research and magnetic-sensor development under separate funded projects.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Junior Research Fellow (JRF): This fellowship supports the ongoing project funded by the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS). The research centres on thin films and their behaviour during high-temperature steam oxidation.
  • Senior Research Fellow (SRF): This fellowship belongs to the approved project funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Its focus is magnetic sensors made using magnetoresistive technologies.

Post-wise Duties

Junior Research Fellow

You will work on sputtered thin films, characterise them and study their response to high-temperature steam oxidation. The project connects film preparation with testing, so the work covers both making samples and examining their behaviour.

Senior Research Fellow

You will fabricate magnetic sensors using anisotropic, giant and tunnel magnetoresistance technologies, identified in the notice as AMR, GMR and TMR. Your work also includes sensor characterisation and analysis of the resulting data.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project tenure: The introduction describes a three-year JRF project, with the first two years at JRF level and the final year at SRF level, and a three-year SRF project. The general conditions separately describe an initial two-year engagement with third-year upgradation based on performance. Ask CSIR-NAL to confirm the appointment terms for your chosen fellowship.
  • Workplace: The appointment is at CSIR-NAL in Bengaluru. These are project fellowships rather than an offer of regular laboratory employment.
  • Time commitment: The notice advises you to work on the project for at least one year after joining. If you wish to leave, give at least one month's prior notice.
  • Travel: CSIR-NAL will not pay transport allowance for attending the interview. Official project visits may be reimbursed under the applicable project and laboratory rules.
  • Information and conduct: Give complete, accurate details in your form. False information or attempts to influence recruitment can disqualify you.

Application Submission Notes

Use the application form attached to the advertisement; you may complete it in your own handwriting or type it neatly. Send it in a sealed cover to The Sr. Controller of Administration, National Aerospace Laboratories, P.B. No.1779, HAL Airport Road, Kodihalli, Bengaluru – 560 017, Karnataka.

Mark the envelope with the fellowship name and Advertisement No.14/2026. The form's printed closing date conflicts with the main submission instructions and the careers page; use the earlier deadline shown in the dates section and seek clarification before relying on the later date.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare thin films by sputtering for the JRF project.
  • Characterise deposited thin films for the JRF project.
  • Study thin-film behaviour under high-temperature steam oxidation.
  • Fabricate AMR, GMR and TMR magnetic sensors for the SRF project.
  • Characterise magnetic sensors for the SRF project.
  • Analyse sensor data for the SRF project.
