The Department of Microbiology at SGPGIMS, Lucknow has released a notification for 1 post of Scientist-B (Medical/Non-Medical) under the research project titled "Setting up of Nation-wide Network of Laboratories for Managing Epidemics and National Calamities - Virus Research & Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL)". This project is funded by the Department of Health Research (DHR), Government of India, and is being carried out under Principal Investigator Dr. Atul Garg, Additional Professor, Department of Microbiology. VRDL laboratories are part of a nationwide network set up to strengthen viral disease diagnosis and outbreak surveillance across India, which makes this a good opportunity if you want applied virology research experience. Both MBBS doctors and non-medical science postgraduates can apply — the institute has kept separate qualification tracks and pay scales for each.

Who Can Apply?

For Medical Candidates (Rs. 67,000/month + HRA):

• Essential Qualification: MBBS from an MCI-recognized college or institute.
• Desirable: MD (Microbiology) from an MCI-recognized medical college/institute; additional post-doctoral research or training experience in Microbiology/Virology; knowledge of computer applications; and two years of R&D or teaching experience in the relevant subject after obtaining your essential qualification.

For Non-Medical Candidates (Rs. 56,000/month + HRA):

• Essential Qualification: First Class Master's degree in Microbiology or Biotechnology from a recognized university, OR Second Class M.Sc. plus Ph.D. degree in Microbiology or Biotechnology from a recognized university.
• Desirable: Doctorate degree in Virology/Microbiology/Biotechnology from a recognized university or institute; research experience in Virology; and knowledge of computer applications.

You only need to meet one of the two tracks above — apply under whichever qualification you hold.

Salary

• If you qualify under the Medical track (MBBS), you will get Rs. 67,000 per month plus HRA.
• If you qualify under the Non-Medical track (M.Sc./Ph.D.), you will get Rs. 56,000 per month plus HRA.
• This is a project position funded entirely by the Department of Health Research (DHR), Government of India, so your salary and continuation depend on the project's funding cycle.

Selection Process

SGPGIMS will select candidates in the following stages:

1. Application Screening: The selection committee will review your CV, biodata and certificates against the eligibility criteria.
2. Written/Personal Interview: If shortlisted, you will be intimated through e-mail for a written test or personal interview at the Department of Microbiology, SGPGIMS, Lucknow.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview, so plan your travel accordingly.
