The Port Management Board (PMB), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, is engaging Inland Vessel Surveyors to support vessel-survey functions across the islands. The assignment concerns craft registered under the A&N Inland Vessels Rules 2016, along with other small boats operating in the territory. This is a contractual engagement under the Chief Port Administrator, with the recruitment venue at Port Blair, now Sri Vijaya Puram.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract period: The engagement is for one year. You should assess the opportunity on the contract terms stated in the notice; it does not promise a continuing appointment after that period.
• Statutory role: The notice treats a surveyor as a public servant for the surveys they carry out. This condition applies to your survey work even though your engagement with PMB is contractual.
• Leave: You earn 2.5 days of leave for each completed month under the cited Central Civil Services leave rules. You must use this leave before your engagement ends.
• Leaving the contract: If you resign, you must give the Chief Port Administrator two months’ written notice or deposit an amount equal to two months’ salary. Consider this condition before accepting the engagement.

• Survey vessels as directed by the Chief Surveyor.
• Keep vessel registers up to date.
• Inspect vessels periodically under the applicable statutory provisions.
• Check onboard records and the validity of crew and survey certificates.
• Inspect life-saving appliances, firefighting systems, navigation and communication equipment, and machinery.
• Detain non-compliant vessels through Form No. 11(a) and recommend certificate suspension or cancellation to the competent authority.
• Provide technical guidance and ensure statutory compliance for PMB-owned vessels.
