Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) is hiring 436 Veterinary Assistant Surgeons and Additional Veterinary Assistant Surgeons under the Odisha Veterinary Service. Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) Veterinary Assistant Surgeon Recruitment 2026 - 436 Posts

OPSC has released Advertisement No. 04 of 2026-27 (Notice No. 4195/PSC dated 18.07.2026) for 436 backlog posts of Veterinary Assistant Surgeon / Additional Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, Group-A (Junior Branch-II) of the Odisha Veterinary Service, under the Fisheries & Animal Resources Development Department. All 436 vacancies are backlog posts reserved for SEBC, SC and ST candidates, with 144 posts kept for women. A Veterinary Assistant Surgeon treats and manages the health of livestock and other animals at government veterinary hospitals and dispensaries across Odisha. This is a Group-A Junior Branch-II post, which means it carries better pay and career progression than most entry-level state government jobs, and it clears a long-pending backlog of reserved-category vacancies in the Odisha Veterinary Service.

• SEBC: 62 posts (20 for women)
• Scheduled Caste (SC): 141 posts (47 for women)
• Scheduled Tribe (ST): 233 posts (77 for women)
• Persons with Disabilities (40% or more): 18 posts reserved (6 for women)
• Sports Persons: 4 posts reserved (1 for women)

PwD and Sports Persons candidates are adjusted against the SEBC/SC/ST category they belong to, and the total number of posts can change without prior notice.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need a Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) or an equivalent degree from a recognized university.
• Registration: You must hold a valid registration certificate under the Odisha Veterinary Practitioners Act, 1970 (Section 21).
• Nationality: You must be a citizen of India.
• Category: Only SEBC, SC and ST candidates are eligible to apply, since all 436 posts are backlog vacancies for these categories.

Age Limit

• You should be between 21 and 47 years old as on 1 January 2026.
• Age Relaxation: SEBC, SC or ST candidates with Persons with Disabilities (PwD) status of 40% or more get an additional 10 years of relaxation.
• Separate reservation is also available for Sports Persons within the SEBC/SC/ST quota, as shown in the vacancy breakdown above.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 56,100 per month (Level-12, Cell-1 of the Pay Matrix) under Rule-3 of the ORSP Rules, 2017.
• You will also get DA and other usual allowances as per Odisha Government rules.

Application Fee

• SEBC candidates: Rs. 700
• SC / ST candidates: No fee (exempted as per Odisha Government norms)
• PwD candidates with 40% or more disability: No fee

Selection Process

OPSC will select candidates through the following stages:

1. Written Examination: Objective type (MCQ) Paper-I on Veterinary Science, with 200 questions for 400 marks. Each correct answer carries 2 marks.
2. Interview / Document Verification: Candidates who qualify the written exam move on to interview and document verification before the final merit list is prepared.

A provisional answer key will be uploaded within 10 days of the written exam, so you can check your expected score before the final result is declared. Candidates who qualify the written exam and interview will then go through document verification, where you must produce originals of your degree certificate, veterinary registration and caste certificate.

3. Register yourself and fill in the online application form with your personal, educational and category details.
4. Upload your photo, signature, B.V.Sc. & A.H. certificate and Veterinary Council registration certificate.
5. Pay the application fee online, if applicable to your category.
6. Submit the form online and save a printout for your records.

Keep your B.V.Sc. & A.H. certificate, veterinary registration certificate and caste certificate scanned and ready before you start the form, since the OPSC portal has a fixed time window for each session.

Only online applications received within the deadline of 24 August 2026 (5:00 PM) will be accepted — the detailed exam schedule and centre will be notified later on the OPSC website.

• Provide veterinary medical treatment and minor surgery for livestock and animals at your assigned dispensary or hospital
• Conduct disease diagnosis, vaccination drives and preventive animal health programs
• Maintain veterinary hospital records, medicine stock and treatment registers
