NLC Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Overview

NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna company under the Ministry of Coal, is offering one-year apprenticeship training to ITI-trained candidates and non-engineering graduates at Neyveli and its Regional Office in Chennai. The drive is run by the company's Learning and Development Centre under Advertisement No. L&DC/04/2026. Only candidates who hail from Tamil Nadu or Puducherry can apply. There is no written test — the shortlist is drawn up from the marks you scored in your ITI or degree, so a strong academic record is what counts.

Posts and Disciplines

Trade (ITI) Apprentices

• Mechanical trades: Fitter, Turner, Welder, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Mechanic (Diesel) and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic.
• Electrical trades: Electrician and Wireman.
• Office trades: Stenographer and COPA (Computer Operator and Programming Assistant).

Each trade needs an ITI pass in that same trade from a recognised institute; your year of passing does not matter.

Graduate (Non-Engineering) Apprentices

• Commerce and management: B.Com and BBA graduates.
• Computing: B.Sc Computer Science and BCA graduates.
• Science: B.Sc Geology, B.Sc Microbiology and B.Sc Chemistry graduates.
• Health: B.Pharm (Allopathy), B.Pharm (Ayurveda) and B.Sc Nursing graduates; these three disciplines carry a higher stipend than the other degrees.

Graduates need a regular full-time degree from a UGC-approved university, passed in 2022 or any later year up to 2026.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Domicile: Only candidates hailing from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are eligible.
• No repeat training: You cannot apply if you have already done, or are now doing, training under NAPS/NATS or the PM Internship scheme at NLCIL or anywhere else.
• No job guarantee: Finishing the apprenticeship at NLCIL gives you no claim to a temporary or permanent job in the company.
• Stipend support: For graduate apprentices, part of the monthly stipend is paid by the Government under the DBT scheme.
• Tie-breaker: If two candidates have the same marks at the cut-off, the older candidate (by date of birth) gets preference.
• CGPA conversion: If your university awards grades, get a certificate from it showing the equivalent percentage; where no formula exists, NLCIL multiplies your CGPA by 10.
• Reservation: SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD reservation follows the Apprentices Act; your OBC-NCL certificate must be valid from 1 April 2026, and without the right certificate you are treated as a General candidate.

Application Submission Notes

The application is online only, through the NLCIL website under Careers → Trainees & Apprentices, using the Apply Online link for Advt. No. L&DC/04/2026. Uploads have fixed limits: photo and signature as JPEG up to 50 KB, other certificates as PDF or JPEG up to 250 KB, with all degree or ITI mark sheets merged into one PDF.
