NID Assam Design and Technical Instructor Recruitment 2026: Overview
The National Institute of Design (NID), Assam at Jorhat is an Institution of National Importance under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It is filling Group-B non-teaching technical posts that run the studios, labs and workshops behind its design courses. These are long-term posts on the 7th CPC pay matrix, not project jobs.
The drive covers Industrial Design, Communication Design and Textile and Apparel Design. If you have a design or fashion-technology degree or diploma and hands-on industry or studio experience, this is a rare chance to join a national design institute. Persons with disabilities (at least 40%) get preference even where no post is reserved for them.

- Associate Senior Design Instructor: the senior post of the three, open to B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Des (Industrial Design) and BFA (Ceramic/Sculpture) graduates, or diploma holders in civil, mechanical, architecture or electronics with longer experience.
- Design Instructor: one post each for Communication Design (multimedia, animation, digital media, visual communication, applied or fine art) and Textile and Apparel Design (textile design).
- Technical Instructor: a garment-production role for BFTech or fashion technology degree or diploma holders.
Post-wise Duties
Associate Senior Design Instructor
You will support studio teaching and project mentoring in Industrial Design, run the 3D printers, CO2 laser cutters and vacuum-forming machines, and keep machine manuals, maintenance logs and stock records. Skills in CAD, UI/UX, CAM and slicing software are expected.
Design Instructor
You will help faculty and students in practical classes, manage studios, computer labs and multimedia facilities, and support photography, videography, editing, publications and exhibitions. For textiles, you work with looms, dyeing and printing, craft techniques and Adobe design tools.
Technical Instructor
You will handle the apparel production floor: pattern making, grading, sampling, fabric cutting, industrial sewing machines and quality control, and look after machine servicing and spare parts.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Contract first: The institute may first appoint you on contract and regularise you later based on performance and need.
- Experience counts after qualification only: Experience gained during full-time study is not counted. Experience certificates must be on letterhead and show designation, nature of work, duration, pay and type of employment.
- Shortlisting: The institute can call only a limited number of candidates and may treat the desirable post-graduate degree as essential to shorten the list.
- Serving employees: Apply through proper channel, or upload an NOC with the online form and bring the original before the selection test, along with a vigilance clearance certificate at interview.
- Women candidates are encouraged to apply; the institute aims for a gender-balanced workforce.
- Travel: No TA/DA for the written or trade test. Shortlisted candidates called for a personal interview get Second AC fare reimbursed on producing tickets.
- Jurisdiction: Any legal dispute falls under the courts at Jorhat.

Degree or 3-year diploma in the relevant design / fashion technology discipline with 2-6 years' post-qualification experience, depending on the post.
