NHSRC Consultant NUHM Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC) is recruiting a Consultant on contract for the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The mission aims to improve access to quality healthcare in urban areas, with particular attention to poor households and vulnerable groups.

The post forms part of the mission's central programme support, linking work at the ministry with states and urban local bodies. You will work under senior officials within this wider programme, where national, state and city teams contribute to putting urban health plans into practice.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract period: The appointment is for one year. Keep this fixed period in mind when considering the role, because the terms describe a contractual engagement supporting the mission.
• Probation: The appointment includes a three-month probation period. This forms part of the stated contract arrangement and applies from the beginning of your engagement.
• Extension: The notice allows a possible extension based on performance and other relevant conditions. You should not treat an extension as automatic when planning around the initial contract.
• Duty station and travel: Your base will be New Delhi, but the assignment includes visits across the country. The Delhi location therefore comes with a field-travel commitment as part of the programme.
• Reporting: You will report to the Director, Deputy Secretary or Deputy Commissioner concerned with NUHM. This places the role within the mission's stated reporting arrangement.
• Ending the contract: If you resign, or the ministry removes you, the consultant or ministry must give one month's notice, as applicable.

• Help states and urban local bodies strengthen services under the urban health mission.
• Review programme gaps and help teams improve their implementation plans.
• Contribute to State Programme Implementation Plans and combine feedback from ministry and NHSRC divisions.
• Visit states to monitor progress, write visit reports and follow up on recommendations.
• Support field supervision and ongoing monitoring of urban health activities.
• Develop a capacity-building framework and support training for national, state and city personnel.
• Prepare programme documents, data sheets and presentations using office software.
• Keep in touch with state nodal officers and coordinate with other NHSRC and ministry divisions.
