MPESB Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026

The Madhya Pradesh Employee Selection Board (MPESB) has released the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 for serving Primary and Middle school teachers in Madhya Pradesh who have not yet cleared TET. This exam is mandatory for you to continue in your current teaching post, following a Supreme Court order dated 1 September 2025. You can apply online from 21 August 2026 to 4 September 2026. The written exam will be held on 12 October 2026.

MPESB Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 for In-Service Teachers

The Madhya Pradesh Employee Selection Board (MPESB), Bhopal, has notified this special eligibility test for Assistant Teachers, Primary Teachers, Contract School Teachers, Lab Assistants, and Science Teachers who are already working in government and private schools but have not qualified TET as required under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. Following the Supreme Court's order in Civil Appeal 1385/2025 and 1386/2025, the deadline for in-service teachers to qualify TET has been extended from 2 years to 3 years, meaning you now have until 31 August 2028. Passing this exam is compulsory to continue in your teaching job — but note that the result will not count towards direct recruitment to new government teacher posts.

If you have less than 5 years of service left before retirement, the Supreme Court has allowed you to continue in service without qualifying TET. However, if you want a promotion later, you will still need to clear TET at some point. This special exam is being conducted separately for the Primary level and the Middle school level, each with its own question paper and syllabus, and exam centers will be decided by MPESB Bhopal.

Who Can Apply?

You can apply for this TET only if you are currently working as a school teacher and have not yet qualified TET.

For Primary Level TET:

• Currently serving as Assistant Teacher, Primary Teacher Assistant Teacher, Contract School Teacher Grade 3, Lab Assistant, Primary Science Teacher, or Assistant Teacher (Science) in a government school
• Or teaching primary-level classes in a private (non-government) school without having cleared TET

For Middle School Level TET:

• Currently serving as Teacher, Secondary Teacher, or Contract School Teacher Grade 2 at the middle school level in a government school
• Or teaching middle school classes in a private (non-government) school without having cleared TET

Note: You must have your Aadhaar registered and linked to your application. Bring an original photo ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Driving Licence, or Passport) to the exam center — you will not be allowed to sit for the exam without one.

Application Fee

• All Categories (General/OBC/SC/ST/EWS): Rs. 1,000 per paper
• Additional MP Online portal charge: Rs. 60 if you apply through a kiosk, or Rs. 20 if you apply yourself using a registered citizen login

Selection Process (Qualifying Exam Only)

There is no interview or further selection round for this TET. You simply need to clear the written test with the minimum qualifying marks:

1. Written Exam (MCQ): 150 questions for 150 marks in 2 hours 30 minutes. No negative marking.
2. Qualifying Marks: You need at least 60% marks (General/Others category) or 50% marks (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/EWS) to qualify.

The exam is conducted in two shifts. In the first shift, reporting time is 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM and the answer window runs from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. In the second shift, reporting time is 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM and the answer window runs from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM. You will not be allowed to enter the exam center after the reporting time closes, so plan to arrive early.

Multi-level biometric verification using Aadhaar is mandatory both at entry and during the exam — you must keep your Aadhaar unlocked for verification. Electronic devices like mobile phones, calculators, log tables, and smartwatches are strictly banned inside the exam hall, and you must carry a black ballpoint pen. You cannot leave the exam hall before the exam ends once it has started.

How to Apply

1. Go to the MPESB portal at esb.mponline.gov.in.
2. Find the TET 2026 (In-Service Teachers) exam link under Vyapam Examinations.
3. Register and fill in your application form online.
4. Pay the exam fee online through the MP Online portal.
5. Submit the form and download your admit card from the MPESB website closer to the exam date.

You can correct any mistakes in your submitted application until 9 September 2026. Keep your application number safe — you will need it to download your admit card, and it is your own responsibility to preserve it.
