JNCASR Ramanujan Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview
Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), a deemed-to-be university under the Department of Science and Technology, is considering researchers for Ramanujan Fellow nomination through its New Chemistry Unit (NCU). The unit wants researchers whose work complements its existing programmes or adds a new scientific direction. Host-institution nomination is the purpose of this call; the fellowship award remains a separate outcome.
Posts and Disciplines
- Advanced Materials: The notice focuses on quantum materials, solid-state chemistry and devices. It names spin liquids, superconductors, skyrmions, ferroelectrics, strongly correlated electron systems, charge-density waves and spintronics as relevant areas.
- Chemical Biology: The listed areas include glycobiology, biophysical chemistry, biomaterials, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, synthetic biology, and metabolic engineering linked to the gut-brain axis.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Support after an award: If you receive the fellowship, JNCASR will provide administrative support and basic research infrastructure during its tenure. Other terms follow the rules of the fellowship.
- Regular appointment: The centre makes no commitment to offer fellows a regular position. You should view this as a fellowship-hosting opportunity rather than an assurance of a permanent faculty appointment.
- Academic fit: NCU welcomes a research direction that supports its ongoing work or brings a fresh approach. Your proposed programme should explain the scientific contribution you would bring to the unit.
- Host endorsement: The final shortlisted researcher receives the institution's endorsement or sponsorship certificate. This provides the host support for the fellowship application; it does not itself confirm a fellowship award.

PhD in a relevant area of Chemical Sciences, Advanced Materials or Chemical Biology, with high-quality publications and strong academic credentials.

For Advanced Materials, a strong background in materials synthesis, structural characterisation and transport/magnetic measurements is desirable.

Ability to develop independent research that complements NCU's existing programmes or introduces new expertise and research perspectives.
