IITM Cyber Security Consultant Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) is engaging a Cyber Security Consultant through its Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The role supports an onsite team at Mhow and focuses on practical offensive security, cyber-range design and security testing built into modern development pipelines. This is a fixed-term engagement coordinated by Prof. Chester Rebeiro, so it is best suited to someone who already works comfortably in enterprise security environments and can explain technical risk to different audiences.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract tenure: The initial term is one year. An extension may be considered later based on your performance, but the appointment does not create a right to regular employment at IIT Madras.
• Onsite assignment: The advertisement places the working team at IIT Madras, Mhow; you should be ready to work from that location rather than treat the role as remote.
• Practical security focus: The work goes beyond advisory reports. You will be expected to demonstrate attacks, build realistic labs and connect offensive findings with defensive monitoring.
• Enterprise scope: Assignments may cover web applications, networks, cloud services, Windows and Linux systems, identity services, containers and development pipelines.
• Communication: Findings must work for both engineers and decision-makers. Technical walkthroughs, proof-of-concept demonstrations and short business-impact explanations are all part of the role.
• Screening discretion: IIT Madras may limit the shortlist using qualifications, relevant experience and academic achievements above the stated minimum. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
• Experience timing: Relevant work completed after the qualifying degree is considered. IIT Madras may relax the experience standard for an exceptionally strong profile.
• Current IITM project staff: If you already work on an IIT Madras project, apply through the proper channel and be prepared to provide a no-objection certificate when called.
