IITGN Senior Project Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) is hiring a Senior Project Associate in its Department of Mechanical Engineering through the institute's Research & Development Office. This is a project-funded, temporary engagement, not a regular institute post. The work is backed by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), and the eligibility rules follow the funding agency's norms rather than IITGN's own staff rules.

Gas turbines that burn hydrogen-enriched fuel face a real safety risk called flashback, where the flame travels back upstream into the burner. Predicting it with full chemistry is very expensive on a computer. This project builds reduced-order combustion models so that large-eddy simulations (LES) can predict flashback quickly and still stay accurate.

You will create methane-hydrogen 1D flame datasets, compress them with PCA-based models, and add physics-guided machine learning on top. The models then go inside a CFD solver, preferably OpenFOAM, and get checked against detailed-chemistry runs and experimental data.

This role suits you if you already enjoy CFD, turbulence and combustion and want to add scientific machine learning to your skill set. The group clearly values hands-on OpenFOAM work, high-performance computing experience and solid Python programming. Good communication matters too, since you will help write research papers and technical reports.

• Temporary position: The engagement runs for a fixed project term and can be extended only if your performance is good and project funding continues.
• Consolidated pay: The monthly amount already includes HRA; there is no separate pay scale.
• Academic record: Apart from the degree, you need a consistent academic record from Class 10 onwards — check the percentage rules in the eligibility field before you apply.
• Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee a call; IITGN may apply a higher cut-off and can choose not to fill the post in this round.
