IITD Project Scientist Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is hiring a Project Scientist for the School of Public Policy under a research programme supported by the R D Tata Trust, Mumbai. The work sits at the meeting point of labour economics, public policy and data science, so it suits you if you want applied research experience before further study or a longer research career. The project examines technology-driven changes in labour demand and skills by using large datasets such as online job advertisements and official surveys.

Your work will contribute to the project titled Support to Indian Institute of Technology Delhi for Enhancing India's Science Technology Policy Analysis Capabilities. You will be part of a research setting where raw employment data is turned into evidence that can help explain changing local labour markets. The role reports to the School of Public Policy research team, with Prof. Ambuj D. Sagar and Dr. Sugat Chaturvedi named in the notice. The mix of administrative and online data also gives you practical exposure to the full research workflow, from careful data preparation to analysis, visual presentation and communication of findings.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Engagement: This is a project appointment on a contractual, consolidated-pay basis rather than a regular IIT Delhi position.
• Renewal: The appointment may be renewed yearly, but it cannot continue beyond the duration of the funded project, which currently runs up to 28 February 2030.
• Academic relaxation: SC and ST candidates may receive a 5% relaxation in marks under the notice.
• Shortlisting: IIT Delhi may set a higher screening threshold when many applications satisfy the stated requirements.
• Communication: Shortlisted names and interview information will appear on the IRD shortlist page; only shortlisted applicants will receive the online-interview communication.
• Retired employees: If a retired or superannuated government employee is selected, pay will follow the prevailing IRD norms.
