IIT Kharagpur Software Engineer Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) is strengthening the technical team that supports its campus software, computing systems and wired and wireless networks. These are non-teaching engineering roles within an Institute of Eminence, so your work will support the digital services used for teaching, research and administration. The notice combines software, system and network specialisations at three seniority levels, including reserved-category backlog positions.

Posts and Disciplines

• Senior Engineer Grade-I: the highest-level role can be filled in software, systems or networking, with responsibility for complex services and large technical environments.
• Senior Engineer Grade-II: this level is for experienced professionals who can independently operate institutional applications, server platforms or campus network services.
• Engineer: the entry level in this notice covers hands-on software development, Linux or Windows administration, or wired and wireless network operations.

Post-wise Duties

Senior Engineer Grade-I

You will guide the design and upkeep of large production systems, solve difficult service issues and help set dependable technical practices. Depending on your stream, the work can cover enterprise web applications and databases, central servers and storage, or campus-scale switching, routing and network security.

Senior Engineer Grade-II

You will operate and improve institution-wide digital services, coordinate maintenance and troubleshoot problems across applications, servers or networks. The role expects you to work independently while supporting teams that rely on stable systems every day.

Software, System or Network Engineer

You will handle day-to-day development and operations in your chosen stream. This may mean building and testing web services, administering Linux and Windows platforms, or configuring switches, routers and wireless access points.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Stream matching: your application should clearly show experience relevant to software, systems or networking; the same broad post title does not make the three streams interchangeable.
• Reservation: Government of India rules apply, and reserved-category applicants must upload a current certificate in the prescribed form.
• Shortlisting: the institute may limit the number called by considering qualification, suitability and relevant experience.
• Selection method: IIT Kharagpur may add screening or other assessment methods if an unusually large number of people apply.
• Government employees: applicants already serving in government, autonomous bodies or educational institutions need the required no-objection and vigilance clearances.
• Finality: the institute may fill all, some or none of the advertised positions, and canvassing can disqualify an application.
