IIT ISM Dhanbad Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad is taking one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) into a sponsored project titled "Cyber resilient wide area control of inverter-based power networks". The project runs under the ANRF Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant and is handled through the Office of the Dean (Research and Development), with Dr. Priyatosh Mahish of the Electrical Engineering department as the principal investigator.

The research looks at how large power grids full of inverter-connected sources can keep working when the communication layer that controls them is attacked. Day to day that means PSCAD/EMTDC simulation of cyber-physical power networks and Hardware-In-Loop validation of what the simulations predict, so the institute is looking for someone comfortable with power system modelling rather than someone who only writes theory. If you hold a first class electrical engineering degree with a power systems, power electronics or control specialisation and cleared a national-level selection test, this is a research start inside an institute of national importance.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: a maximum of three years, or until the project ends — whichever comes first. The engagement is tied to the sponsored project, not to a regular institute post.
• Fellowship step-up: the fellowship stays at the JRF rate for the first two years and moves to the higher rate in the third year.
• House rent: HRA is paid only when accommodation is not available on the IIT (ISM) campus.
• Shortlisting: meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call — candidates are shortlisted on merit and on what the project actually needs.
• Interview travel and stay: no TA/DA is paid for attending the interview, and you make your own arrangements for staying at Dhanbad if you need to.
• Selection route: your post graduate selection must have come through CSIR-UGC NET and GATE, or through a national-level examination run by a central government department or agency.
