IIMB Research Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), an Institute of National Importance under the IIM Act, 2017, is hiring a Research Associate for a set of research projects on sustainability and sustainable behaviour. The projects look at how people behave around agriculture, food waste, electricity use and paper consumption, and they rely on lab and field experiments that apply behavioural insights to real problems.

The role is a six-month project position hired under a project code, and you will report to Professor Shalique M S. It is built for someone who wants hands-on research experience before a PhD in Behavioural Economics, Management or a related field.

You will not be working alone on data. IIMB says the Research Associate will be fully part of its research community, working alongside faculty members, PhD students, research fellows and academic associates. You also get mentoring to build your research skills and support while preparing and applying for PhD programmes.

The day-to-day work leans heavily on Stata, econometrics and experiment design, so if you have already worked on randomised controlled trials, field or lab experiments, or impact evaluation, you will stand out. Knowing R or Python is a bonus but not required.

Beyond crunching numbers, you will see the full life of a research study: registering a study before it runs, preparing ethics (IRB) applications, reading earlier research, and helping turn results into registered reports and journal manuscripts. IIMB also looks for clear writing and speaking skills, a careful eye for detail and the ability to juggle several tasks, because the projects run side by side and involve different teams.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The position runs for six months and is funded under a project code, not a permanent institute post.
• Pay: IIMB has not published a figure; compensation is as per institute norms.
