IGIMS Patna Senior Resident PMR Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, an autonomous institute and statutory university of the Government of Bihar, is holding a walk-in interview for Senior Resident posts in its Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PMR). These are ad-hoc appointments under the 89-day Senior Residency Programme, meant to keep the department running until the regular three-year Senior Residents are recruited. If you hold an MD or DNB in PMR, or an allied orthopaedics, general medicine or paediatrics degree, this is a quick way into a busy teaching hospital in Patna.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: the appointment lasts 89 days, until full-time Senior Residents join.
• Preferred vs allied degrees: MD/DNB (PMR) is the primary qualification; allied degrees (MS/DNB Orthopaedics, MD/DNB General Medicine or Paediatrics) are considered only if PMR-qualified candidates are not available.
• Bihar domicile for reservation: reservation benefits apply only to Bihar domicile candidates; applicants from outside Bihar compete as unreserved. EBC candidates must carry caste, non-creamy-layer and domicile certificates.
• Non-practising post: private practice of any kind, including laboratory work, is strictly banned and leads to termination.
• Legal bond: you sign a bond to pay back one month's pay for every year of the residency not completed if you quit midway.
• Campus stay: living on campus is compulsory when accommodation is given; otherwise HRA is paid as per rules.
• Employment status: if you work anywhere, bring a No Objection Certificate from your employer; if not, give a written statement that you are neither employed nor doing any course.
• Flexible numbers: the number of posts may go up or down, and male candidates may be considered if eligible female candidates are not available.
• Shortlisting: meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview; the Selection Committee picks candidates based on bio-data and the interview.
• No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview or for joining.

Results are declared on the IGIMS Patna website. Once you submit the form, you cannot make changes to it.
