ICAR CIRCOT Young Professional-II Recruitment 2026: Overview

ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology (ICAR-CIRCOT), part of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, is recruiting a Young Professional-II for a genome-editing project in Mumbai. The project studies how microbial systems can improve xylitol production from cotton lignocellulosic biomass using CRISPR/Cas9 technology.

The engagement belongs to the project Engineering Microbial Factories for Enhanced Xylitol Production from Cotton Lignocellulosic Biomass using CRISPR/Cas9 Technology, funded by ICAR, New Delhi. Your work will connect cotton-biomass processing with microbial genome editing and the study of production results.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: The appointment is temporary and contractual, ending with the project, which is scheduled to finish on 31 March 2027. The institute may also end the engagement earlier.
• Work base: You will work at ICAR-CIRCOT in Mumbai. Project or office assignments may involve travel elsewhere in India.
• Joining: The institute expects the selected person to join immediately or as early as possible because the project has a fixed duration.
• Leaving early: If you resign before the contract ends, you must give one month’s notice. Otherwise, the competent authority may forfeit your consolidated pay.
• After the project: The engagement does not provide a right to absorption or re-employment at ICAR-CIRCOT or elsewhere in ICAR when the project finishes.
• Travel expenses: You must meet the cost of attending the interview and joining the post. The institute will not pay travel or daily allowances for either purpose.
• Recruitment conduct: Canvassing can disqualify your application. The Director’s decision is final on matters connected with the appointment.

• Apply CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing in Saccharomyces cerevisiae to improve xylitol production.
• Optimize culture and production conditions for maximum xylitol output.
• Interpret the results of the project experiments.
• Write research reports on the project findings.
